To South Bend Clutch:

I ordered a "con O" clutch assembly from you guys around November, and finally over the holidays I was able to get the thing installed.

No hitches, no glitches, and it now shifts like a dream! I justed wanted to you guys and anyone on the board who doesn't know, that you guys have an outstanding product. Its amazing how much power I was losing over time at the rear wheels.

One small question of clarification. Theres a note that the clutch needs 200 miles of "normal driving". I assume this is before I begin towing anything right?

A million Thanx in advance!!!

When the time comes for a clutch I will go with SBC, everything that I have read or heard about them is positive.

PS I like that saying "Life is tough. Life is tougher if your stupid. " John Wayne ;) Man is that the truth :)

I've really liked mine. (and I keep telling EVERYBODY who will listen :D )

For the break in period, you want it to seat properl and heat it up. Don't slip it, or abuse it. A lot of just plain old normal shifts in the beginning and it will treat you right.

I broke mine in for about 5,000 miles. Last night, I poured the coals to it and power shifted from 3rd to 4th. It spun the tires. Its' the first time I've gotten the Ram to do that. the stocker wouldn't even chirp on a 1-2 shift. (p. o. s. stock clutch:mad: )

cost for a stock clutch is around 550. (from a dealer), but a the pilot bearing, throw-out bearing are extra. You only get the clutch and pressure plate. The throwout bearing alone was another 90$. I didn't even bother pricing the pilot bearing.

The clutch I got at SBC, was right at 700, but was good up to 400 horsepower.

But when you order it, you get the pilot bearing, a kevlar sleeve(if you've damaged your flywheel), the throw-out bearing, the new clutch, and a better pressure plate.

For me it was pretty much a wash. .

The biggest cost for me was getting two other people to help me drop the transmission. It was a little bit intimidating (in size and weight).

When I needed a clutch for my 97 2500. . I did a lot of searching and reading of what people had to say. . I also called and talked to Peter and explained to him what I do with my truck(tow RV). And after a long thought process. . I ordered one of the 13" Con OFE upgrades from Rod at Wildcat. .

I had not driven a high performance clutch so I did not know how it was suppose to act. . Peter came out to the Tulare Diesel Showdown and I was able to get the man to drive my truck. . After a couple of circles thru the parking lot. . he said . . yup. . that is what it is built to do.

This is one of smooooooothest clutches that I have driven. The clutch presssure less than my Honda Accord. . I can push a 10k 5th wheel back in to a camp spot with no problem at all... .

Save you nickels and and do it right the first time!!!!

Sorry for the length of the post. .
