Hey everyone!!

Just some friendly advice - Do NOT, under any circumstance do a third gear launch at the drag strip with your single disc FE clutch - you WILL warp it and then she won't want to shift into gear, especially reverse. :eek: :eek:

Peter at South Bend was VERY helpful and at first had me purchase the hydraulic setup w/the adjustable master cylinder rod. But to no avail, it still didn't disengage the clutch completely. :{

So, after tearing out my transmission and seeing how bad the disc was warped, I called Peter again and he said that the only fix was to install a new clutch assembly. I decided though to go with a ConOFE this time because I never really liked the grabby take off's and want something more smoother for towing and daily driving.

I also want to commend Peter for his graciousness and understanding of my ignorance by sending me the new clutch assembly, covering it under warranty. A huge thanks and thumbs up for South Bend - first class!! :D :D

South Bend Clutch is definitely first class!

I really like my OFE. It drives very close to stock, and I have yet to slip it... . even at the drag strip.

No 3rd gear launches, though.

I have dished out some pretty serious 2nd gear 4x4 launches with no troubles whatsoever! I have to do this and an occational soft (1500 RPM dragout) 3rd gear launch just to knock off the glaze and eliminate some of the grabbyness from my FE.

With a few hard 3rd gear takeoffs I could see how this clutch wouldnt really like it, especially since its not designed to slip like the DD's.

wow thats not good. but it is good to know seeing how that i am in the market for a con fe. but i was going to launch in third but not any more. how are you guys launching with your six speed then? launching in second just seems useless.

2500 RPM's or so in 4WD,then drag out the clutch somewhat fast to minimize slipping then when the clutch is out its time to grab 3rd. 2nd is almost useless because your tacking so fast and not going anywhere but it is about the only way to keep the FE SOMEWHAT happy.

RobertP-

Mattymac is right on target - always do your main launch in 2nd, then hitting 3rd. Another part of the problem that I had was that I showed up a little late to the track and needed to get my truck "dialed" in, so I made 3 runs down the track back to back.

This was prior to my 3rd gear launch, so she was already hot from all the racing.

Quite the learning curve!

Update!

Just got back from my test run, and have to say that I'm extreamly :D :D :D with my new ConOFE. Smoooooth take-off's and shifts better than when she was new.

Once again, thanks South Bend! Oo. Oo. :cool:
