Want a 4in remote mount exhaust brake

4 in downpipe

Sorry for the long post but I need to get a warm and fuzzy on this clutch issue...

Ok, here's the deal... I have PE Comp, BD II's, 4" exhaust, Scotty Air II. Depending on who I talked to I received different estimates on how much hp I would have (keeping in mind that I asked prior to installing the Comp/injectors). I hear anywhere from 380 - 400+. So I called SB and told them what I had and that I do NOT tow and I do NOT pull. I was told that the Con OFE would no doubt be the way to go for my situation. Since this was a chunk of money I still asked around for opinions and got the same thing... OFE is what you want. I specifically asked if the FE should be considered and it was immediately dismissed... .

I came home tonight to find my Con OFE waiting on my door step and was excited. I looked it over and jumped on TDR to look for any pre-install tips and became very unsure of my decision as I read some of the posts here. I see a lot of posts stating that the LIMIT for an OFE is 400rwhp... but this is from SBC website:

"This kit will hold 400-525 horsepower & 1000 ft. lbs. of torque. "

After talking to SB on the phone and having them recommend the OFE for me and later hearing that if you are at 400hp you should go with the FE... . I'm a little confused.

Please understand that I am not bashing ANYONE! SB and Texas Diesel Works were awesome to deal with. I am very happy with the dealings. I am just a little nervous about installing this clutch with the mods I have and not being able to do anything in the future without possibly smoking my not-so-cheap clutch... .

Could someone please clear this up for me? Perhaps I'm just having a brain fart or I missed something...

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

I am over 400hp by a little and am going to a OFE with full confidence. Peter knows his stuff and if he says it will go 500hp then believe it.

I see you have a 5spd... . You have the correct clutch! ;) If you had a 6spd, it would be the wrong clutch. The OFE's for the 6spds are weaker than the FE's.

THANK YOU! Already I am breathing better....

I never doubted Peter or Mark, I just thought that perhaps I didn't do a good job of describing my particular situation. I know they aren't mind readers.

Installing this clutch should be a breeze for you Ryan! :). Let me know how you like it because I'll be needing one this summer.

I'm confused. (Probably not a surprise) I thought the Con OFE clutches were good up to 400 rwhp on the 5 speeds. I bought mine last year. Have they been re-rated for more hp since then, or did the clutch change? Or did I just have bad information to start with? TIA

Nope, the Con O for the 5spds is supposedly good up to 400 hp... ;)

Yeah Neil, the install isn't a problem. As a matter of fact I'm coming back home to do it. If you're around I'll look you up. Should be the week after next.
