South Bend Vs Mcleod

Any one running the MCLEOD clutch or have an opinion on SOUTH BEND vs MCLOUD. I do not want to do this many more times. The trans weights more than my ex does. Any way if money was not the factor here what would you all run. Thanks much again. Oo.

I've only had the South Bend Con O so I don't know about the other(s), but Peter @ SBC is really great to deal with and has a line of clutches that hold power smoothly. Give him a call.

SBC hands down!!!

My first clutch was a McLeod. I absolutely hated it. It was the noisiest thing I've ever owned. It made this "chirping" sound every time I engage the clutch and while sitting at an idle it rattled the transmissions so bad you could hear it from a block away. There has been some talk about the McLeod clutch being a bit hard on the syncros also due to the fact that it's an un-sprung hub. I couldn't wait to get that thing out of my truck. I now have a SBC and I love it. It holds the 400 horsepower with no problem and their customer service is awesome.

I have only driven one truck briefly with a McLeod in it and It did not seem that bad. But it was also my first time driving a twelve valve and playing with a usgear od so I was over welmed with new toys I have a south bend con-fe in my truck and it is great. I like the positive/grabby feel of it. It seem very strong and has no problems with my meager mods.



It seems to me that the mcleod is over kill and has to many negatives. The con-fe should hold anything you can throw at it.

If absolute max holding is needed, and money was no object, Mitchells twin disc would be a good choice.



But what do you want to do with it?

What clutchs have you ruined already? If you have not tried a SBC yet, it may be plenty.

South Bend is #1

South Bend clutch are #1 in my book!!! Peter has great customer service and a very great product!!!!!! My Con O is holding 400+ HP and is smooth as silk.



IMO you can't go wrong with Peter and South Bend for regular trucks and if you want to pull the sled around check out the Enterprice clutch.

I can't comment on the SBC experience wise as I have never driven a SBC equipped vehicle. Peter's concern for customer satisfaction speaks for itself on this site.



I have had a McLeod Dual Disk Street in my truck since Jan. 01. It was initially installed by Auto Wurks Diesel along with a HX40 and BD step 3 injectors. I was already running the Edge EZ box as well. It held that power with no problems. I added the TST PM3 Comp. box and swapped out to the BD step 5 injectors last summer, the clutch sticks like glue no matter what I throw at it. That being said, I don't drive like a 16 YOA anymore either. My days of holeshots and rollbacks on the hills are long gone. I roll into the power and once moving, like to do short WOT runs to check boost, egt. , etc. This clutch will handle most anything that you can throw at it, just don't abuse it as seen in another post regarding a failing McLeod.



Also, zero driveability concerns here. Clutch pedal pressure is the same as stock. Gear engagement is smooth and precise, no chatter while starting in first or reverse. I would strongly suggest that you conatct JVD http://www.jvdeng.ws/ and ask to speak with Van or Patti Haisley (sp). Great folks who know the McLeod inside and out. They assemble each McLeod before they ship and also TQ test each up to 800 Ft. Lbs. before shipping.

I will throw my 2 cents in for SouthBend Clutch. My Con O holds lots of power (about 480 on the street) I drive it everyday at 450HP and have my foot in it everywhere I go.

No complaints on the McCleod. It's been in a couple yrs now. No noise @ idle or any other time. Holds over 400hp, easy pedal pressure ... feels like stock. Oo.

My $. 02 worth... You can't go wrong with either the SBC-con O or SBC-con OFE. I've got over 12,000 hammered miles on my OFE and still no problem... HP600+
