Peter, Other than posting here, I don't know how to "THANK YOU"!

As I had posted before, Peter sent me one of his "NEW" MU 0090 OFE clutches, "FREE"! It's rated at 450+ HP!

I replace the MU 0087 con B, the original clutch I got from South Bend. There was nothing wrong with it, it had worked flawlessly.

After the installation, I could not get the truck into gear without shutting the engine off. Clutch was releasing right on the floor, truck would move forward with clutch pedal pushed all the way to the floor. After much thought, I remembered that I had BOMBed the slave cylinder with the 1/2 ton slave cylinder from Napa (p/n 360-051, larger diameter), to reduce the pedal pressure of the MU 0087 con B clutch, here is the post:

I realized that with the bigger slave cylinder, I was not getting the throw I needed. I replaced the 360-051 cylinder with the stock cylinder (Napa p/n 360-085). In Napa's catalog it says this slave cylinder is only for the gas motors, their book is wrong, the 360-085 is also for our 1999 thru 2001, 2500 and 3500 trucks. After installation the clutch works GREAT! Pedal pressure is about stock or maybe a little less, it starts to engage about half way out and is fully engaged by about 3/4 of the way out.

ATTENTION!

If you have BOMBed your clutch with the 360-051 slave cylinder from Napa, you will need to go back to the stock cylinder (360-085 from Napa) for use with this clutch (MU 0090 OFE).

SOUTH BEND ROCKS!! PETER YOU GUYS ARE FANTASTIC!

OH! I almost forgot NO CHATTER! This clutch is really smooth. If I didn't know, I would think it was the stock clutch!

Animal,

Here is a thread on this new clutch. South Bend has it for both the 5 and 6 speeds transmissions. It is a cross between the Con FE and the Con O.

There isn’t much on the clutch in the post, just some whining. I need to know if it is 12. 5" or 13", what are the two materials, and hopefully a more in-depth owners review, thanks anyway. I'm not installing my 6spd for a little while so hopefully there will be more on this clutch in the future.

Animal,

I believe the flywheel side is ferramic and the pressure plate side is organic with copper or brass braided through it. Mine is a 13".

Performance will be determined in about 3 weeks after it is properly seated. I just put it in on Friday. My last dyno was 460 HP and 885 torque, so I should be able to give you some pretty good first hand info.

From past experience, South Bend knows what they are doing! I am not afraid to take them at their word. This clutch will perform as stated by Peter. I already love it.

If you need more technical information call Peter at South Bend:

Bob,

I look forward to reading your review in three to four weeks.

Thanks

sbc rocks

B... you said it man, south bend clutch rocks.

I've had a south bend clutch in my truck for about 8,000 miles now, and it works great (truck only has 10,000 miles on it BTW) I have been very impressed with its holding power and how well it will stand up to some pretty good abuse. After getting to talk to Peter in person this weekend in Tulare I am even more impressed. We talked for about 40 min saturday, this guy knows clutches. Any body out there trying to choose a clutch for their truck, if you don't at least call and talk to Peter, you are missing out. By the way, Peter said they specialize in all kinds of clutches, not just for cars and trucks, if you have a some goofy application, give them a call chances are they can do what you need. (So peter are you sure my dad wont need a conFE for his 1941 clark fork lift?? You know it runs propane right ;) later guys Phil

P. S. did you know it takes about 175 of the 33 cent stamps to 2 day mail a 6 speed clutch from california to south bend?? Dang near ran out of room on the box. LOL (don't ask long story) Next time maybe i'll use UPS:eek:

sb ofe

the ofe is now in my 98. 5. i originally wanted the con o but it would have been borderline with my propane on. discusions between ken jones and peter and it was recomended the ofe was the better choice, especially with my payload, and the fact i might swap the ez for a comp.

i originally feared the ofe, worried about chatter, pedal pressure, and controlability while backing the trailer into a tight place. well the ofe has less pedal pressure than stock, no chatter, and good controlability. i am impressed.

im still breaking it in properly before i test it under full load and power. i understand ill never have to worry about it slipping. even dropping the hammer at 1600 rpm fully loaded in 4th or 5th /nv4500/ its supposed to hold good.

im glad its in now.

Animal,

The South Bend OFE clutch Rocks! It is holding great under full power, and no chatter! 427 HP last Dyno.

South Bend, you guys got it together on this clutch!:D :D

Thanks guys,

It took a little work to figure this clutch out but it sounds like the work was worth it. :)

Remember, if you have any problems, do not hesitate to call me and we will do our best to try and figure it out.

Like I have always said... you guys are the greatest!!!

Peter
