I'll be installing my DDII's and 4" exhaust this weekend, and I've been trying to research clutches a little, since I suppose that will probably be in my near future . Here's the question: I've been to Southbend's website and there are many different clutches that they are selling. I'm curious as to which one is the best suited to my application (see sig). Any thoughts or comments? I started with Southbend because I have heard so many good things about them on the TDR, but I would like to hear about experiences with other clutches as well.

Thanks!

The Con O is a sweet clutch for the 5 speed. I would get that one for your truck. I have used the Con O and love it. No chatter. Smooth engagement, Holds high HP numbers too.

Good price as well.

It holds my detuned 450HP with ease and is easy on the drivetrain. Dampening.

Don M-

How much did you pay for the Con O? And what about installation? I need an idea of about how much I'm going to have to cough up. If it's a bunch, I might have to hold off on installing the injectors until I can afford the clutch. Might have gotten ahead of myself a little!

Call Peter

Guys:

Call Peter at South Bend and he'll help ya bigtime. You need to know what kind of ponies you're pushing and what you wanna do with it. I bought mine, but haven't installed it yet until the weather turns nice.

I called Peter on mine. I hate to pop out prices on the board though.

I installed my own clutch. I hear the labor rate varies with the guy who does the work. If you travel to Dallas I might be able to help ya out.

Ive never heard of a problem with that clutch.

I just love my SouthBend and I have reamed the snot out of it.

It still holds tight and is soft to drive.

Bad luck with Centerforce and DRE.

Never heard anything bad about TST.

SBC seems to rule the boards under 400hp

If you ever plan on going higher than 400hp, tow heavy loads, or sled pull, there is only one to go with in my book. Pay me now or pay me later, so to speak.

See sig.

Sledpuller,

I'm wondering about that clutch you have. That was my first choice, but the price,I kinda' have to hold off for now. I wan't to enter a few pulls this year,so maybee next year I'll get that clutch. What I was't to know is, my truck is my going to work, going to play, going fishin',huntin',campin',vacationin',goin' out ta' meetin',and chick pickerupper,so in other words,I HAVE to drive this EVERY day. Can I do that and pull a trailer?Trailer's are usually less than 8-9,000#'s.

In the Minority.

Are Bigsaint and I the only ones here who are running the McLeod? I can't speak for 'saint, but I love my McLeod. It's very well behaved for a hot-rod clutch. No problems or complaints here. That's another option for you.

Thanks for the input, guys. It sounds like I need to figure out what kind of power I will be pushing with this truck. I don't have access to a dyno. Anybody care to venture what kind of power I'm looking at with DDII's, an EZ, and a 4" exhaust? I guess that will be a big factor in which clutch I go with.

I don't really plan on going any farther with the bombing, but I'm not naive, either! It's funny how you always say, "this is all I will do to the truck. I'm going to leave it alone after this. " I guess there's just no telling when the end is in sight :D

Thanks!

Yea, I scored with the babes when they heard the clutch!

Any single disc clutch you buy, 1 sled pull will shorten its life. Some more than others.

If you have to, back off the throttle until it hooks, them eae back into the power.

I have Mitchell's full comp clutch, and it is MUCH more street friendly than my last clutch. Second gear starts are no problem. It does take a little getting use to, eh, Hammer?

Towing is not a problem. It does rattle when it is disengaged, but a small price to pay for something that will hold tons of power at the pulling track. Get the HD input shaft while it is down, so start saving. That is the next weak link after the clutch. You do not have to worry about the shafts in single disc clutch apps, because they will slip or rip the centers out before the shaft breaks.

If you want a bargain clutch for now, and are a glutton for punishment, I will make you a sweet deal on a rebuilt, updated DRE clutch. It should last a year, and 2 or 3 pulls, at the 300-350hp level.

GeneOo.
