Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Southbend Clutch

Just wanted to say that so far, the Southbend Clutch (Con FE for 6 speed) is Great!!!



After it is broken in, I plan on pouring the coals to it

I sure do like mine. I talked to a guy yesterday that wanted to bet 50 his Ford 350 srw would outrun me. He is a good friend so I said to get in and take a ride with me and we'll see if he still wants to bet. Make a long story short he changed his mind.

My current SB clutch has over 40,000 miles on it and still works like new... . Of course it should after all my truck is nearly stock and I only drive it to Church and to get the groceries a couple of times a week!

How many miles did you guys get on your original clutch before you figured that it was time to replace it?

About 20 miles after a PE Drag Comp and DD3's injector install. .

Just wondering?? What does this clutch cost and how much does it normally cost to have it installed? How that I have a 6 speed I need to know this kind of stuff

I got 125,000 miles out of the stocker with stock power on my Mom's truck (see sig) before I shattered the center hub I wnet to about 140,000 miles on the stocker in my truck, before swopping it out to a SBC.

cost to install

I got 52,000 miles out of mine with 275's and a pm3 adj.



As far as cost, the clutch was 999. 00 and installation was 500. 00



and 40. 00 for flywheel resurfacing.

Cheaper upgrade then the auto guys have to pay.

109k and still counting. But I don't tow, use granny for most starts, and have a high % of highway miles. A friend who tows, starts in second (when empty), and has more miles in town replaced his clutch at 28k. I've been debating whether to order the SBC now or wait until I actually need it - wouldn't want to miss out on any futher improvements they come up with!

Ouch!!! Guess I should have gotten one when they were on sale. The one that was good for 400 hp ~ish was in the $600. 00 range, and the one good for "over 400" was $700 something. I dont remember what one was what, con-o,con-ofe

I'd like to see a group purchase on these, otherwise I'll have to wait for mine to let loose.

If your running a truck under 375 HP is it better to get the OFE versus the FE? Are they both as durable for their application? Is one more driveable than the other? I guess what I am trying to ask is why would anyone get the OFE even if they had a truck rated at only 245HP if the FE was more dependable (durable) and was as easy to use??

ofe vs. fe

the FE clutch is a disengaged or ingaged clutch, not much middle groung (slipping it).



the ofe, on the other hand is more user friendly.



If you plan on serious bombs, just go with the FE, or the new FEW



The new FEW is like $1,600 and good for over 550 hp

Thanks E7mack96, I will never go over the 375 HP rating for the ofe, how much better than stock is the ofe?

The OFE has a softer pedal feel. It is still more grabby than stock, but does not slip like stock and engages very quick.

Who has tested this clutch at that horsepower? And for how long, and in what application?

I have had the 13" fe for the 5-speed and have over15k on it and im well over 550 horse.

So you are saying that is how SBC got their rating? Are guys sure it is $1600?

That is more than a Mcleod dual disc.
