Southbend CON-FE installed

Just got my Southbend CON-FE installed in my 5 speed and I am surprised, I was expecting it to be kinda jerky when taking off or doing 2nd gear starts but it is not bad. What I do notice is the shifting is not as smooth, has more of a ratchety mechanical feeling shift as I go into gears, I dont see any speed shifting just yet.

So far I am very glad I did the FE instead of the OFE

P. S. I did have to upgrade the hydraulics for the clutch.

My friend just had the dual disc 3250 installed. He loves it. Doesn't make any noticable noise and it is pretty smooth. Pedal is alittle harder.

Why do you say you had to upgrade the hydraulics? Would yours not disengage using the stock hydraulics?

Upgrade.

I think the website recommends the hydraulic upgrade on nearly every application.

Just curious cause we ran a 3850 DD with the stock one for a while. Never failed, but stuck one in out of a 97 eventually.

I did not think the stock hydraulics were weak or anything but the truck would not go into reverse unless you shut off the motor first and first gear wasn't a whole lot better.

Maybe a stupid question but what is the difference between the the FE and the OFE?

a friend of mine was trying to install a DD in his '05 yesterday, and they had some issues trying to get it together. . arent SB's slutches pretty straight forward? or do you have to buy extra stuff? he said it seemed like the input shaft was too short or something??

Installed a con FE in my 99 works good but a little jumpy. Wait till you try and back up a trailer I suggest putting it in 4low. I upgraded my hydraulics because my old ones where bad, but they told me that I wouldn't have to. I don't know if anything different on 05 but went right in my 99. The com OFE uses an Performance Organic facing on one side and a Feramic facing on the other. Where the con FE uses the Feramic facing on both sides.

OFE = organic on one side, and feramic on the other

FE = feramic on both





On a side note, I liked my OFE for sure... Held alot. But when it came to 3rd gear starts and sled pulling, its a no go
