Just thought I'd share some first impressions of my new Southbend clutch. First thing I did was back out of the driveway and it was very smooth. I did a couple second gear starts and same thing... very smooth. Pedal pressure seems to be just a little more than stock but not bad at all. I'm not going to really test it until I give it a little more time to work into the flywheel. This is the same clutch that they haven't determined the upper limit on yet. I really hope that it does hold all the power because it seems to be a great combination of streetability, price, and performance. I'll know more with time but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Peter,
I spoke to you a few months ago about a new clutch for my 99 Cummins 1 ton with NV4500. I just got my tax check and am ready to get my clutch.

A recent dyno run gave me 335hp and 865ft/lb with PowerMax2. Will have the adjustable PowerMax3 shortly and need your best clutch for my truck.

What clutch do you recommend and when can I get it installed. I live in Terre Haute, In and will be driving up there to have it installed.

Thanks in advance, Terry Tucker

The new clutch appears to be "working in" very quickly... it's become much a whole lot more "grabby". Starting in any gear has become a little more challenging but it's still not bad. I don't think it's possible to get a clutch that holds horses and still feels as smooth as stock... just the nature of the beast probably. So far still pleased though. As long as it holds the power, the grabby starts aren't that bad. Again, time will tell.

My SB Con FE is still working great. The small amount of 2nd gear grab seems to come and go and I am not sure if it is temp related. If I raise the rpm to 1000+ it is perfect. I am sure mine is broken in at 4,000+ miles although I do tend to Baby it around. #ad
