Hey guys:

I'm having the South Bend CON-OFE clutch installed this Friday by Autowurks Diesel, I'll let ya' know how it turns out.

You guys really know how to make a fellow feel bad. . The pilot bearing and the throw out bearing gave up the ghost at the same time and I had to replace them.

The problem is that I didn't have time to get the clutch from SB. . I needed the truck the next day. . so I installed a heavy duty oem. . I wanted the SB. . I just didn't have time to get it here. .

Sorry Peter:{ :{ :{

But my truck is still running stock so that clutch will hold until I can get the SB. .

Rick

One more time: Peter at SBC has a ETH/DEE clutch core of mine. I do not need it for the moment as my second OEM is still holding OK. If someone needs Peter to build them a clutch quickly they are welcome to use mine... ... ... ... ... but be sure to replace the core so it will be there when I need it.

Barry,

In concern of the core swapping issue... the few that we have done did not have a good success rate. We did 4, one chattered and one slipped, 2 we never heard back. Brandon's father was one of the people and his slipped. Boy, I would have never guessed, the clutch only had a few miles on it and looked good. We did our tweek and put the material on the disk and it still slipped. Must not have had the holding power that was needed. I then sent him a brand new setup and it worked great. The gentleman with the chatter was from Texas, we had some problems there and it ended up costing us a few dollars to try and give a deal. I don't know that the deal is worth the trouble.

Concering the clutch that started this post, this is a new thing that we're doing that is not even on our webpage yet but will be there by the end of the day.

We have had some center breakage with the clutch disk in the 5 speed and early 6 speed, non-ETH clutches. Heavy hauling coupled with heavy horse power coupled with 1 ton duallys (sometimes) and us making the clutch not slip could have a tendency of over torquing the center of the disk. So what we did to remedy this problem is, first, to realize in the 12 1/4" clutch it did not offer us enough room to put any bigger or stronger of a clutch center then we already had come up with, so what we are doing now is offering a clutch package where we redrill the flywheel to accept the ETH clutch which has a clutch disk center that is 3 times the size of anything that I could put with the 12 1/4" clutch. This also allows us to use more of the feramic material that enables the higher horse power so, in a sense, the OFE (organic & feramic up to 400 hp) or the FE (which is not available in the 5 speed) can handle, like CUMINNTSTRKN stated above, over 600 hp. This is a little more expensive way to go but assures no problems with center breakage.

If you have any questions on this feel free to call me and maybe I can explain it a little better over the phone. 1-800-988-4345.

I can atest to the last statement Peter made.

I had 469HP and 1027ftlbs in my last truck. i had the 12. 3" CON OFE in for about 2000 miles before i blew the teeth off the hub and stress fractured the disc around all the springs. OOPS :D

we switched me over to the 13. 0" FE and it held everything i could throw at it. :D including my Mother in law. :D (sorry ma)

Like Jim said, i tried to make it slip and couldnt. WOT in fifth gear with a 6000lb tractor and nothing but GO-FAST.

I think what Peter is doing is great. they saw a problem with afew guys and decided to change their entire program so the rest of us wouldnt have any. He!!, they dont need a warranty on what they sell, its all taken care of up front :D

great Job SBC, and Keep it up.

(Hey Peter, dont worry after i finish this truck and give it to the wife. i'll build me another one, without the slushbox, I promise :D)

clutch installed, wasnt to bad, took my time and thought it out, the biggest help was I purchased a trans adapter from Northern Hydrolics to fit on my big floor jack, wow this made it easy , I left the trans and transfer case in one and the adapter is adjustable for your tilt , I highly reccomend one if you are going to do it yourself. I will give my clutch a 300 mile break in and then waho... ... ... ..... Kevin

Kevin, that worked huh? I was asking around about the Northern adaptor without much feedback. Went to order and it was out of stock. Found out I could borrow a nice jack from work and was glad I had it. So, that adaptor held both transmission and transfer case? Wow, that's a lot of metal.

the adaptor made it so easy that I think a person would be foolish to seperate the trans and transfer case:) :) :) , it would only create more work, now I have a 4 ton jack that has a fairly large base to it, so a smaller jack may get tricky???

Hey peter, Its me Phil, brandons buddy who mailed you the clutch with the gazillion stamps. I guess i must be # 3 and just to keep you up to date, mine kicks butt. I have done everything that you shouldn't do to a clutch and it still sticks like white on rice. :p The core in brandons dads truck only had 1800 miles on it to be exact, cause thats the one i took out of my truck. I'm with you, it looked pretty good except for the glazed disc. go figure. You dont want to know how much he teases me about that. I totally agree with you though. Probably not worth the headache. I guess mine was lucky, but just wanted to update you, i still love it. For anyone out there, I got the chance to talk to peter for quite a while at tulare. He knows clutches and is just one heck of a guy to talk to. If you need a clutch, you are selling yourself short if you dont talk to him.
