i had an FE on my 97 and backing a trailer was bad until i got my 2 low kit. unfortunatly they dont make one for the new trucks. i found that a nice 3rd gear launch smoothed the clutch out when it got 2 grabby.

if you have the flywhel resurfaced you need to put a shim between the flywheel and crank to take up what you removed ,als ck out valair inc.com there feramic clutch kit is great and costs 1/2 what south bends is and looks identical just installed south bend fe in my buddys 03 and just put valair feramic in my 05 both with nv5600 and look and perform the same and arw rated for the same power not as smoothe as stock but does not slip under load anymore

i am still awaiting arrival of my new fe but in the mean time does anyone have any suggestions on breaking this clutch in. Should install it and drive the snot out of it are should i take it easy?

I drove the snot out of mine. I'm curious though as to why you got a flywheel. I just had the stock taper ground out of mine and I didn't go with the older hydraulics either. At first it's a little grabby like a light switch but it is good now. In my opinion it's mostly due to the taper being gone it's either engaged or disengaged all at once now. Reverse is a little different but I don't even notice now.

I recommend getting the flywheel because the bearing is so much better. My stock clutch/flywheel made it difficult to get into 1st, 2nd, and reverse. When the original clutch was pulled it looked new.

Getting into gear is easy as a Honda now... well, almost.

Ok, thanks for the info. I usually just use my foot if I have trouble getting it in gear. :-laf Just kidding of course. I haven't experienced any trouble so far. Maybe I got lucky?

yes the bearings are alot better and also you prolly spend $50 gettin yours turned and then you have to shim it i like to do things all the way when i do them and the upgraded hydralics will help with the trouble of getting it into gears and also they are adjustable, my dad has an o5 and the difference in my 03 clutch and the ease of his 05 is unthinkable and i want to try to get that easy clutch feeling

just for yalls info

i got my sbc clutch in yesterday i dropped the trans installed the clutch and flywheel and was proceeded to go back in with the trans had terrible time (about 6 hours) fighting to line up all. So like a fool i pulled it back off just to make sure the clutch disc would fit on the shaft and it did not. I am not saying where i ordered this clutch from but i am saying before you install the pressure plate and disc make sure it fits on the shaft not to mention its a holiday weekend and nothing can be done till tuesday

Did you end up with a flywheel with a 1. 25" shaft? I know I have had an issue when I ordered a clutch, my distributor messed it up, thankfully I was talking to Peter before the clutch was shipped and got it straightened out. This is where it pays to have a vendor that knows what they are doing, and if they don't know, say they don't know but they will find out.
