SPA Gauge pressure senors

I have the SPA EGT gauge, by the way, love these gauges. Sometimes when I push the red button to find out my highest reading, the numbers read 1832 or 1810. Then I have to rezero the gauge again so I can get the proper high temperature readout. This might be good for one or maybe three days, there is just no rhyme or reason for this. I called SPA, they think when I shut the truck off, it vibrates a little bit, therefore giving me that goofy reading. Has anybody else experienced this glitch? I was sent a new black box, that didn't work. The gauge works fine so probably don't need a new gauge which they offered to send me free of charge. I know there is alot of you guys out there with this gauge in your truck. Am I the only one with this freaky phenomanan?

have not heard that particular problem, if I were you I would go ahead and ask them to send out a new gauge just in case, there are many of them out in this field now and have not seen that yet.

My SPA temperature readings seem to work fine, but I have not been able to get reliable performance out of my boost gauge. The problem seems to be bad electrical connections to the sensor, but so far my efforts to bend the tabs for tighter connections as suggested by SPA have not yielded reliable results for more than a day or two before I have to play with the connections again. It's even worse when it rains!

I couldn't get my boost gauge to zero out. It would always show -1. When I did get it to finally zero out, after running it would show -1 at idle and with the engine off. I tried to zero out again and it would show zero, but now shows 1 at idle. After running for a while it will show zero. I'm kinda just playing with it for now and will see if this continues. I have not experienced your problem though.

When I first started down the path of looking at these SPA's, the seller told me to isolate the pressure head from the engine block. I never did, but looking at the tubing kit I bought from IISPRO, maybe I will to address some of the minor pressure glitches I see from time to time.

The temp sensor has been working fine since upgrading the sensor from the way too small one originally provided. (no cost to me)

Naturally most of my problems were self induced. Big foot ripping wiring out when I had it kludged in for testing the first few weeks. I have a short somewhere in the harness because of this. When the ESPAR gets cleaned up I will replace the harness on the SPA senders.

Enjoy

I have not experienced your bogus readings. I have 2 dual guages and have been very happy with both. I've been acused of being a little anal about my stuff, (like when I was caught waxing the lawnmower), so I took a lot of care in making sure my install was clean (ie heatshrinking all connections and taping all wiring together in the a-arm and under the dash).

Steve, the + or minus 1 on the boost guage isn't nec. wrong. It may be dependent on your altitude changes and the fact that the engine can produce a very slight vacuume at idle (this was debated on a previous post when I asked the group if seeing a neg. boost reading at idle was normal) BTW I zero'd out my guage at install with engine off - make sure you are zero-ing out with engine off.

SPA Wrong EGT Highs

This is an old thread, but the bogus peak EGT's are caused on my truck anyway by the CB radio, usually only during high humidity, some sort of RF interference. I have never took the time to figure out if the wires are too close or what, but I only get high readings after transmitting on the CB.

I traced my similar problems with SPA Boost/EGT to the crappy electrical connectors that they use. I cut mine off and solidered them and have not had a single problem since.
