In process of puttinh on spa technique dual gauge. The parts that came with gauge don't don't match instuctions that came. Put pressure sensor in 3/4" hole just behind the fuel filter. plugged into harness off gauge. Put egt sensor just off center of center of exhaust manifold. The sensor has a red wire and a yellow wire. I assume these hook to yellow plug that goes into the signal amplifier which in turn hooks to the gauge harness.

Which wire on the egt sensor is positive?

The boost reads 70" all the time.

The egt reads FL -68 FL -68 over and over again.

I hooked a ground wire to the egt sensor and that didn't help.

Help!

I am assuming your probe and such look something like this.

The guages have changed a bit since I got them and I can not remember everything but here goes.

Egt sensors do not use voltage, they create it. One of the wires is probably a ground. Take one of the other plugs apart and see which wire is hooked to whick prong on the yellow plug, then hook the others up accordingly. You could just reverse the wires and see if it works. I know I had to set the gauge up for a thermocouple and for deg F when I got it. Follow the directions in the little blue/white manual you got.

As for the boost I am un sure. On the pig tail that plugs into the back of the guage, the red wire was power and the black was ground. There was another wire that drives an external light or what ever, just coil it up and leave it alone. The plug for the boost sensor just plugs into the pig tail hanging off the sensor.

You do have to set up the gauge a little before it will work. To zero the pressure, hold the red button down and cycle the power on the gauge till both warning lights come on then let off the red button. Now push the red button twice. You should see "pr" in the upper window. Now push and hold the red button till the display blinks. Now cycle the power and see what the boost reads. Should be close to 0.

I hope this helps. . I know there was a wiring diagram in the back of the manual that was not much help. . You might send an email to HVAC... get his address from www.performancediesel.net He knows tons about these gauges..... Post more info on exactly what you have done and what you have hooked up and we will get you through this.

Okay another thing, look at the yellow connectors... one of the screws has a red dot on it (look at the picture I linked to) that is where the red wire hooks.

You asked:

Which wire on the egt sensor is positive?

Well the two EGT wires are dissimilar metals. They make a very small current which the amplifier changes to a certain volt and then gives you a temp readout on the guage. Did you use Teflon tape to seal the fittings on the exhaust manifold? That is a no no.

Use Never-Seize! If you are getting the open circuit (FL -68) that means that the circuit is not closed. Your wiring job is not correct. Go back to the diagram and look it over again. I wired yellow to yellow and red to red. Also make sure you have the wires going to the correct hole on the thermocouple. Look at the red dot on both sides and have the red wire going to the red side.

On the boost problem... I think you might have the plug connecting to the pressures transducer in the wrong position. Mine had a little mark ( maybe yellow) that made sure that I had the transducer and plugin connected to the right wires. If you look at the plugin to the transducer, you will see that one blade is larger than the others. Make sure you have the plug lined up perfect to the transducer.

One other thing... I put in pre and post turbo temps and had to install a switch to handle that problem. I had to make sure that the ground wires WERE connected. You can't see the ground connection unless you cut the wire after the amplifier. I am guessing that you might have cut the wire (mounting the amplifier in the engine compartment) after the amplifier and did not reattach the grounds. You have to cut off the shrink wrap to see that there is a ground. If that is the problem just wire the grounds together and it should work.

I had some of these problems but had local help... was a life saver on such an expensive bomb.

If you need anymore (info) help PM me and we can get together on the phone!

The only yellow plug I got has 2 spades stiching out of it that fit into the amplifier. The wider spade is negative. I don't know if I have a new style or what because the gauge harness uses a wire directly to the boos sensor with a small round plug. The egt sensor wire is exactly the same type of plug . it plugs into the amplifier. I tried reversing the two wires off the thermocouple to no avail. I wrapped a 12 gauge wire aroung the outside of the egt senor and hooked the other end to the negative batt terminal. I think i must be missing pieces. The thermocouple wires have terminals on the ends of the wires that dont fit in the yellow plug. too large. The thermocouple doesn't look like the one on the website where i bought from. The boost stays @ 68 0r 69 lbs whether the truck is running or not. doesn't matter if revved up either. I am at a loss.

I just can not picture what you are saying completly. .

Did you try zeroing the boost, and making sure the gauge is set up for psi?? Does your boost sensor look like this or does it have a small short wire harness hanging off of it that plugs into the gauge harness with a little square plug?? If it looks like the one in the pic you have to be sure you got it installed with the yellow marks lined up. It is possible to burn up the sensor if it got hooked up wrong. It sounds like it is working because it is giving you a number. It probably just needs to be zeroed or set up in the gauge menu correctly.

As for the EGT I have no idea. It sounds like you got the wrong or a different thermocouple. I think I would try to call the company you bought it from and get some advice. My thermocouple came with a yellow plug on top of it. I had to install the plugs on both ends of the yellow wire but they came in the package with the wire. Here is the only pic I have of my thermocouple, the black tape is covering the connection between the two yellow plugs.

ilplumber, you can try to call the US rep here in the states. His name is Ron Mathis. Telephone No. is 317-271-7941. His email is

He helped me with one of my problems! He even called me on his dime. :)

I have a pic in my album of the EGT probe. It shows the two red dots lining up on the harness. The way I remember it the pyro wires will only hook up to the amp one way. https://www.turbodieselregister.com/user_gallery/displayimage.php?&photoid=583&width=0 This is the link to the probe pic.

For the boost mine has a electric sensor that I screwed into the port on the manifold. The wiring harness has a black cable with a small DIN connector. Mine is a 10MM 90*DIN with three wires. The sensor has three male pins, I am guessing at the size but it is close to 10MM DIN. There is a one pin that is a tiny bit wider than the others as mentioned above. It must be plugged in in the right orientation. I would suggest pulling the sensor out of the manifold and working with it out where you can see it easily. Take a paint pen ar nail polish and mark it where a blind man can see what the orientation in when installed, I used three colors to mark mine with the same color corresponding on the DIN connector. When the sensor is in you have one of three colors to line up with, makes it a ton easier. I think you have bent a pin or do not have it correctly installed to get the readings you are getting. Take it apart, mark it well and re-install it. It will work. Hope this helps.

Boost just needed zeroed. Instructions are a little unclear. The exhaust thermocouple I got doesn't look like the pics yall have posted. No yellow connectors with red dot. although i do have the amplifier and black wire in your pics. I will call the company monday. Thanks. :)

iplumber - Give Brandon a call, as they say, "He is the Man" when it comes to SPA gauge installs.

I got it working. So yall can close this thread. thanks for the help. I have another question posted about this gauge in the accessories forum. I don't feel my discussion belongs in 911 anymore though. Thank you all for the help.
