Well, I got my SPA gauges installed, and they work great. My only complaint is the connectors on the EGT probe. Very hokey design, looks weak and not durable. #ad
So I have decided to use a different thermocouple. I tried the Auto-Meter #5249, but will not work because it is a grounded thermocouple. SPA requires the use of a type K ungrounded thermocouple. So here's my question... Is the ISSPRO thermoucouple grounded or not? I emailed them a few days ago, and have not yet gotten a response.

For those of you with the SPA gauges, are you using the SPA thermocouple? If not, which one are you using?

Thanks in advance! #ad

I will be installing my IISPRO TC today or tomorrow on the SPA gauge. I'll let you know if it has a problem.

If you are talking about the yellow blade connectors as cheesy, those are industry standard connectors for thermocouples.

I went with the IISPRO TC as I did not like the thickness of the one's SPA sourced.

Good find HEATER EXPERT, I wish I found you when I was scrambling around for the larger TC.

Evan, the thermocouple for my VDO gauge looks like it is ungrounded. Kind of a pain to get into it with a meter to check but a grounded thermocouple would short out one of the leads and cause innaccuracy. Also, the VDO gauge uses 12V battery to power the gauge circuitry. This would require a floating thermocouple. Summit Racing and egauges sell it. The number is 323-890.

Hey Evan which thermo couple do you have, the 1/16 or the 1/8. The 1/8 should be just fine we use that same k type thermocouple at work in are burn boxes 24 hrs a day and they seem to work fine. Also the fans seem to suck up everything and they rattle like a diesel most of the time.

EVAN,
Bad news, the IISPRO tc does not work... I get a steady 32F regardless of engine condition. I will look for a meter to ohm out the SPA TC to case.

Now I must find a bushing to go from the large hole I have for the traditional TC that does not work for me.

It does work in my test gauge, so I guess that is how i will travel this time (until I hook up with MCrossley for the right TC)

Found the parts I needed to get SPA's TC to work in my truck. Yahoo, finally I see temp on the gauge!! Works great!! #ad

No if fixing my clutch was this easy. . #ad

David,

Thanks for the info! #ad
Bummer the ISSPRO one doesn't work, it looks like a fine unit. I think I will just get some shrink wrap and cover those yellow connectors. *LOL* They may be industry standard, but they sure do look cheesy! #ad

Hey Evan I have been putting black shrink wrap over the yellow connector if nothing else to hold it together properly. The connector is just a bad color not quality.

MCrossley,
Thx for sending the new style TC to my sister's in GF. Will make the rest of the trip all that much better!
