Cat V8

Cat had made V8s. The 3208 and 1160 were very popular engines in many applications including buses, fire engines and others. These were not special applications. They make other v8s and v12s for many different applications.

I have had Cats and Cummins in my truck-tractors. My Dad had worked for Cat for many years. They are both great engines. I can't say one was better than the other. I have operated fire engines with navistar 466 engines and they have been great. I don't have experience with Isuzu except for the diesel they put in their little pickup.

The Cummins has a longer duty cycle. That means a lot to me. I am concerned about my truck falling apart around it.

Just wondering what size fire engines yall had with the 466? We had one a few years ago in a 100' ladder truck and werent impressed. Not disapointed either though. We ended up geting rid of it due to continuouse problems with the transmition and air system. We now have a simular truck (as in size, weight, ect, but a differant brand) with a CAT and it's truly the engine that was meant for these (fire) trucks. We since have bought 2 of the heavy duty GMC trucks (I forget what they call them) as brush trucks both with CAT engines. Even with that big ol skid unit and a tank full of water it will gidy up and go.

Read my post again. I said they tried it and for some dang reason didn't stay with it--except for special aps. Inference is-if V8 was better they'd still be doing it.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE V8's for gassers--just not #2--and don't put a gasser in MY truck.

I prefer the 700HP V-12 Cats as my Large Engine plant of Choice.

Maybe I'll get picks one day of a Frac Job with Halliburton's huge 700HP Cat V-12 Diesel motors... . One Day... :)

Yall have fun.

Hey fellas, there's no reason to be hostile towards someone! I am as big a fan of the Cummins engine as it gets, but let's not harass someone ESPECIALLY a NEW MEMBER if they aren't yet as loyal as we are.

There two ways to make something appear better: either focus on all the positive one thing has, or focus on all the negative that ALL the OTHERS seem to have.

For those Ford guys who love their Pstrokes, let them have it. You can't FORCE them to see the light. You can only make your case and then put the ball in THEIR court.

My stepdad is a Ford guy, and bought a powerstroke. I don't hold it against him, and I actually think his truck is very nice-- Crew Cab Long bed, 4x2, auto, two tone paint. There's no way I would have convinced him to buy the Dodge, even though he is an OTR trucker, and will TELL YOU HE LOVES CUMMINS.

I drove it and it rode VERY nicely-- probably because it is longer than a mobile home. I don't want it though. My truck is perfect for me.

This is like saying one brand of speakers sounds better than another. To someone who has less refined hearing, a $200 speaker sounds great. To someone with VERY refined ears, they can truly appreciate $5000 speaker. When I make speaker recommendations to someone, I will tell them my observations, then tell them to go out and listen to a bunch, then BUY WHAT YOU LIKE. Some people just can't appreciate the difference between a higher end and a lower end model.

Music and listening are HUGE to me. For my home speakers, they took $1000 OFF the price... .

Buy what you can appreciate. I appreciate the reputation, engineering, and EVERYTHING about the Cummins-- even the noise!!

Heck I get along with everyone! ;)

Even the owner of the local Polaris Dealer which by the way owns a Flower Poke with a Banks Kit. Uh Oh here comes the story!

He was talking up his Ferd one day when I was in picking up some parts. This is back when I just had 275's and the Puck (302HP) A few weeks later we met up on the FWY, and he instigated a little showdown. He gave me "the nod" and it was on.

Lets just say that when I stopped by the shop the next day, he was cursing his Banks Equipped Flower Smoker! :D Oo.

Come on here calling us truth-stretchers (big fibbers) regarding all the fords we've dusted, and we'll get riled up.

There -WERE- two hot Fords in the neighborhood (20 miles away-this is rural) and I was going to race both of them, BUT (should I start telling lies now?) the both had drag racing experience and good clutches. My clutch was/is slipping at high-power settings.

So we never lined up and never will be able to now. One truck had an injector break off in it-he rebuilt and deBOMB'ed. The other truck has been deBOMB'ed and the owner is looking for a CTD!

He had spent a fortune on it and the Cummins trucks were still faster. It had a bigger turbo, hot computer, higher fuel pressure, huge injectors, and propane,--just wasn't enough.

He has joined the TDR and is lurking out there now.

Yet another convert to the Cummins faith. Maybe we should build a church? We could put on the marquee something like: Cummin side and see that the Lord is Good. Or maybe something like Cummin to heaven-- your faith has saved you...

there are lots of options:)

Shortly after I purchased my first CTD ’01 2500 auto, I went to an RV show with some friends of mine who own Ford 250 PS’s, same year. We talked about the actual purchase price of the vehicles, and a little reddening in the face when they realized that I got a NEW truck for $8k less than they paid for used. They were satisfied that the money they spent got them a Bigger, Stronger, and Faster truck. We stopped by a booth that was pushing the BANKS products. I got a quote from the dealer for a full package (turbo, intake, comp, exhaust, gauges, transmission upgrade, and e-brake) installed for a little under $5k. I looked at my buddies and stated “Gee for $3k less than you, I would have the Bigger, Badder, NEW truck”.

They have since conceded that both vehicles stock on a flat road are about the same (we tested this theory). But they guarantee that they will blow by me towing a fiver up a hill (haven’t tested that one yet). Time will tell, but I think that we will be surprised to see – they are about equal again. Of course the numbers will be skewed now that I have the 3500 HO 6spd. But all the other Ford PS’s that I have played with on the hwy (rather they reacted in a less than polite manner when I passed them while just cruising along) that appear to be stock, I have yet to see a clear “Better Truck”. Time will tell, but until then, to each his or her own personal choice, may they get all the satisfaction or headaches that come with that choice.

My electrician's wife drives a 2002 Excursion with the PSD. He had the Diablo comp puck put in and she thinks its a drag racer. It will even blow some black smoke. You would think she would learn after losing to my 99 with my TST box only on level 3 of 9. I tried to explain to her to bring up the rpm's so that you get more power off the line. 9 times and she still won't learn.
