Drawing some conclusions from Mopar Muscle's tests on another thread

A flow meter would be a better tool than a pressure guage to determine fuel efficiency.

We might be trying to correct a problem that really don't exist without heavy bombing.

Other posts indicate that when the injector pump don't get enough fuel you will experience surging or bucking problems.

Our stock lift pumps last any where from zero to 140,000 miles and there should be some indication when you change filters and pump the canister full that it is getting weak.

What if it quits say in the middle of British Columbia or some remote place.

Thinking this all over, I decided to buy a spare stock pump and carry it with me. I stopped at my local Cummins Dealer and he didn't have one but can have me one tommorrow.
If it would have quit right in front of his shop, he couldn't have fixed it for a couple of days. Hows that for having a point made. Any way I will pick it up monday for $136. 00. Cheap insurance I think.

Another note. He wanted to get my engine number and in the process saw my EZ and said "How well does that work". I said "you aren't supposed to see that". He said "No, No, I want to know because I am thinking of getting a few to see if they will sell"

I always carry an extra belt and oil and fuel filters. An extra pump actually sounds like a good idea. Do you have a part number?. I have a 2001 Auto.

He said he needed my engine number to put in his computer to get the correct part number. So I don't know if they are the same. Any how I will have a part number on Monday or Tuesday and I will see that you get it.

The only reason they want the engine number is to make sure they're looking for a part to be installed on a Dodge pickup rather than a motorhome or something.

I picked up and installed a new lift pump last monday. the part number on the Cummins box is 3938435. This is the third pump this truck has had in 42,000 miles... although the 1st one worked,it was replaced under recall.

I do realize fuel flow is more important than fuel pressure. But for me,pressure registering on the test gauge means my truck is getting fuel flow,as opposed to vacuum registering on the gauge. See,my truck has airoquip fittings and braided hose throughout that replaced the stock junk. I also change fuel filters religiously,so I know I don't have any restrictions in my fuel system. For my next project,I'm going to add another stock lift pump back by the tank and run in series with the one in the stock location.

Picked up my spare lift pump today. Cummins part #3938435, same as MikeR's. Cost $139. 08 I gave it a home under the back seat, it can ride there until needed.

Hey, did you hear that sigh of relief!!
