One of my boating friends who runs a diesel boats, and knows all the commercial fishing guys out of Point Judith, RI, advised me never to use a dry chemical extinguisher to stop a runaway... . he said he saw an engine that got ruined by that.

I never asked about the details... and possibly he didn't know any details... .

Certainly I don't want to start a war over this... I just took it to heart that I wouldn't use one to stop a runaway... . which is a rare occurance in modern diesels.

I also carry a 17mm wrench for the injector lines in case I would ever run out of fuel. Ummm, no, it hasn't happened to me before, uh not lately anyway... .

Those who carry a spare belt (as we all should) Be sure to carry a *NON-A/C* belt for your spare!!! You may wonder why... because the non-A/C belt can by-pass a siezed or otherwise defective a/c compressor!!!
