A 285 should fit in the spare tire location under the truck.

But that is usually the maximum that you can get in between the framerails.

Safari Rack?

You could put on a safari rack Con-Ferr . I toyed with the idea a few months back, but decided it might not look good. Then this evening I saw an F-350 with one, and it looked really good and quite useful. I'm now back considering getting one, to mount my spare and hi-lift jack.



Problem with these: you have to drill holes in the roof!:(

I was going to make a comment or two on this. I usually carry 2 spares, as I live in a slighly remote area, and travel through some even more remote areas. I have had sparetire holders on the front of one or two pickups, and another one in the bed , or underneath. . I have one mounted in the bed now, but lost my underneath one to a fuel tank a week or so ago. I have a new solution to the second spare in the works, and I thought maybe I'd post a picture of it in a few days, as soon as I can get over to the next state and get it installed.
