Anyone out there ever put a spare tire winch on a first gen. truck?

I'm not an Arnold Schwarzenegger here. 107,000 miles later and ten years, I am getting old. Seems like a lot of room back there on these old trucks. Any information on this will be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm looking into doing this as well. My hitch interferes with the stock spare tire bracket, not to mention it's a major PITA to get the tire back in place.

I saw a winch from a Toyota P/U that looked like it would be easy to adapt, but I don't know if it will handle the weight of a "real" spare tire. Pics of how a FS truck spare tire winch mounts would be a big help. ;)

I have a 10k Ramsey sitting on the floor of the garage to put in the rear. I planed on cutting out where the license plate is, (I have a crome drop bumper). mounting the fairlead there and making a bracket to bolt the winch in between the frame. I already have the tire mounted in the bed.....

I saw a furd 350 with the same setup about a year ago. The owner said it was better than having one in the front...

I just wanted one on both ends.....

spare tire winch

:) This past summer I was looking in the wrecking yard at the ford winch setups to adapt to our trucks and it is a doable set up. I haven't had the time to attack the project yet, but will this summer and will post if someone hasn't done so by then. Tim

that 10,000 lb Ramsey ought to be able to handle raising and lowering the spare without too much effort.....

Some sort of assistance would be nice. I have only had a few flats but it always seems to be in the mud, snow, or sharp rocks. I just love squirming around on my back holding up the tire with my knees, trying to get the 285 to fit, and get the nut started. #@$%! Getting it down isn't as bad. Just have to be sure there are no appendages are under it when it falls. My last flat I had the magnetic base to a CB antenna stuck in the RR. Shoulda seen that one coming.
