2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission spare tire

I have a 99 shortbed and recently I picked up a 8. 5ft lance camper. My problem is I cant get my spare tire down because my gate is down for the camper. Does any body have any suggestions ? Ive been thinking about it and I might have to fab something up so I can lower the spare without taking the camper off!

Can you mount the tire on the back of the camper? I think it would be a bugger to handle the tire even if you *could* mount it on the roof of the camper. LOL

I wonder how hard it would be to rig an old windshield wiper motor or electric window motor to create a power spare tire drop?

I think Im going to weld a piece of all thread under the truck where the spare goes and make a handle to tighten the spare up in its spot, I might even get tricky and put a pad lock at the end of the all thread. I dont think the camper would support the tire very well. Thanks for the response Im kinda surprise nobody else has had this problem When I ask my friends that have dogdes they all said " dont carry a spare"

That was going to be my other suggestion.
You could use the situation to justify an on-board air system (which would also come in handy if you need to air-down the tires to get to that perfect campsite offroad). Also pick up a Victor Tire Repair Kit at Wal-mart and you are good to go.
Unless you have a total tire failure, i. e. "blow out". That is when the cell phone gets used!

Make you up an adapter that fits the lowering/raising tube and weld a

socket on the end, then uuse a ratchet to raise/lower, 3/8" will work if you use a long handle ratchet. bg

this is also a great idea, I will have to crawl under it and see what will be the best and easiest option thanks guys for all the help

1) Never had a flat

2) Figured I would just lift the camper up on the jacks and change the flat

A few bucks buys a front receiver and a spare tire mount. Bought mine from E Trailer.
