The speaker that is on the passenger side under the dash of my truck went out. I was wondering how the dash came apart so I can replace the speaker. Also has anyone else hooked up speakers behind the seat?

i would try pulling the glovebox off, i know there is alot of room behind there but i can't remember if i had speakers up under the dash. Try that and let us know.

Not sure how the 92 dash is, but on my 85, 89, 90 models, you simply remove the speaker grill from the top of the dash and unbolt the speaker. You can't remove it from underneath. Be careful with the screwdriver prying the grill off. Two bolts/screws holding the speaker to the dash, then unplug it once you've removed it.

On edit: if you swung the glovebox out of the way, the speaker is up and to the left of the glovebox. You could possibly check to see that its still plugged in, but thats it.

Bill,

My dash doesnt have a speaker grill in it, which originally I found weird. The original owner of the truck said the truck originally came w/out a radio, so maybe this explains it. Apparently when he had the dealer put a radio in, he had them put speakers in the dash, because I can hear it come it and out sometimes.

On most of these trucks, they didn't come with speakers in the dash... I've only seen a couple of them. Sometimes they came with base models that had AM radios, also some government trucks had them in there for CB use. In all fairness, its not the best place for a speaker anyway... .

Here's mine. Couldn't tell ya for sure if a speaker is there, but on my other 1st gens they've got one under the grill. As of now I only have one speaker that still works, the one in the passenger door  .

Yeah I've about given up the witch hunt of finding the speaker, and just think I will get a box and some speakers to put behind the seat.

My 93 LE has speakers in the doors and in the back corners of the cab. Had factory Cass player. My buddies base 90 has speakers in the doors as well, but being base model, he didn't have the rear speakers. Guess it depends on year and what trim level option the truck had.
