What size speakers are in my 02 2500 extended cab. I am looking to replace both front and rear, it has the standart 4 speaker system not the fancy infinity system. I am really looking to fix this soon, need answers without removing door panels, as i only want to have to do that 1 time if possible.

The rears are all 6 1/2" and any 6 1/2 inch will fit.

I had the Infinity but I am quite sure the others also had 6x9s in the front. They are shallow 6x9s, so not all will fit. If you ask someone like Crutchfield, they will tell you 5 1/4, maybe some 6 1/2, will fit as replacements for the front 6x9s. That isn't true. You CAN put several aftermarket 6x9 speakers in the front of our trucks without interference with the window mechanism. Not all, but most like Pioneer will fit. I definetly recommend the largest speaker you can fit in there. I was talked into 5 1/4 componants for the fronts. The factory 6x9 w/ factory tweeter on one side and the high-end 5 1/4 w/ tweeter hooked up on the other side showed the 6x9 to sound much deeper. The other had clearer highs but was over all no better since it was so small, but anyway.

For the door panels, get a trim removal tool from an auto parts store. They are on so strong that the tool alone will dent the door metal where the pry point is. Put a thin piece of flat metal (1/8" ?) under the leverage point of the trim lever to spread the load against your door metal. I put a shop towel under the metal piece to not scrap the paint too. When you put the door back on don't use all of the yellow Christmas trees, half of them will do. You'll have some extras and it makes it easier to remove the next time.

Hope all this jaw flappin' helps.

I had Infinity Kappa 6x9 three-ways in the front and Kappa 5 1/4 in the rear. The 5 1/4 rears worked fine and I planned to upgrade to 6 1/2's but never did. The 6x9's up front worked awesome with a Rockford amp behind them. No depth problems at all.

MJawsman,

Can you give me the model number of the 3-way kappa 6x9 you put in the front door without fitting problems? I bought my latest gear from Crutchfield and ended up putting some Pioneer 5 1/4 up front because that is all that would "fit". Well, I am super dissappointed with them and would like to do something different.

Do you think these would sound better than some of the components that would fit up front?

Also, are there Infinitis that fit in the back doors? I'm pretty disappointed with the Pioneer 6 1/4 I have back there.

Thanks,

John

John,

I no longer have the truck, but I have the speaker box in the garage. I'll check the model number and let you know. For the record, I also had the Infinity sound system with the tweeters in the pillar. I doubt Dodge would use a different speaker cut out (in the doors) for non-Infinity systems, but maybe that was the case. Depth was no issue for me. The factory speakers were at least 6" deep. I also did not hook up the factory tweets. Imaging was rock solid center with this set up. It sounded awesome with a deck/changer/sub/amp and rattled the mirrors! My teenage kids used to have me show off the boom to their friends! I'd be happy to try and get you on track with a system.

Mark,

I agree that Dodge probably didn't have different door setups for the two systems but wow, 6" deep? The factory 6x9 that I took out of the front door wasn't anywhere near that deep. I agree though, I'll be it is a standard depth.

Don't go too far out of your way but I'd be interested if you get a chance to take a look at those boxes.

Thanks!

John

Bozookas under the seats

I had the Infinity system which was junk. Replaced all the speakers and radio, and added a 51/2" Bozooka under each front seat (facing foward). I fixed them to the seats and put two amps (one for fronts and one for rears) under the center console. 8 speakers, 2 amps and no lose of space. Sounds awesome. :-laf

Actually, the Intrepids used to have different size speaker depending on Infinity or non-Infinity. I don't know much about the 2nd-Gen speaker system, but it would not suprise me if they had 2 different speak sizes. In fact, the Infinity had 5-1/4" in the door, and the statndard was 6x9.

I put Pioneer 6x9s in front doors (most any will fit, depth wise you can get away with alot). For rears it is a 6. 5 stock, I put an 8 inch siny subwoofer in the door though. Had to open up stock hole a little but it worked great. If you do it stuffthe door with polyfill (ask at a craft store) and use a "free-air" sub.
