Looking at some new 6x9s for the front doors.

Can the tweeter assembly stick past the front of the cone any and still fit ok? I suppose this only matters if you want to use the stock grilles made into the door pannel. Anybody cut this out and use the grilles that came with the speakers?

Also how deep can the speaker be overall without hitting anything in the door?

Just wanting to get something to put in there that sounds nice. Nothing local to buy that is very good. Going to have to get it mail order and hate to have to send it back if it doesn't fit right.

Crutchfield has their selection guide but their stuff they list as fitting is all expensive stuff.

Looks like a good price. I bought mine a few years ago so they have changed the configuration and part number, so maybe they don't fit anymore

The factory door speakers are only 5x7 so the holes need to be trimmed to get a 6x9 to fit. I put Kenwood 6x9 3-ways in the doors on mine and they fit without hitting anything. You have to trim the door and mount them from inside the door or the tweeters will hit the factory grill. Instead of modifying the grill I mounted them fro the inside and they work great. I also mounted a set of the same speakers in a custom box where the jump seats used to be. Now I need a better stereo to adequately drive the speakers.

The 6x9s I put in mine fit with no modification to the door. I am thinking I put them inside the door as cerberusiam stated. I cut the grill part off of the factory speaker splash shield so it would clear the tweeters and re-used it. I used Kenwood 3ways, they work good. A guy I know with a stereo shop says Pioneer is the way to go for speakers though, oh well.

Travis. .

Thanks!

I will give a set a shot then I guess. I might just buy as set at wallyworld first though and see if they fit before going mail order. The walmart doesn't have much of a selection though.

I also need to reinforce and reweld the the lower door hinge area while I am in there on the drivers side.

Figure I will also throw some dynamat style material I have in there as well.

I have a set of 6. 5" components laying around I never used on another rig. . mabye I will look into adapting those then throw one of my old subs in the back.

I have way to much old audio equipment laying around... . previous adiction :-laf
