Have a 99 3500 dually that the passenger side front speaker went out. I thought it was the head unit, but was told that it was the speaker instead. It has the infinity sound system and the local stereo installer told me that I need to replace the speaker with stock one. If I used an aftermarket brand I could risk burning up the amps, therefore having to replace the whole system. Has anyone heard of this?

Yes... . While I'm not 100% sure of the operation of the stock system he is telling the truth some what, but it is usually the other way around. Usually you cannot replace the head unit with a high power one and keep the Infinity amps/speakers. i suspect if you buy a quailty set of speakers they will be fine, although I would replace both at the same time. It is some thing you can easily do your self.

my 99 2500 did the same thang

we are just going to up grade the speakers but keep the stock radio and keep it stock looking so the punks don't want to break in and steal a stock system you can put some nice speakers behind the door panels it look stock

I have an aftermarket head unit with the factory Infinity speakers. I had to install an additional 4 channel amp to run the Infinity amps/speakers.

If you replace the speaker with a lower impedance speaker you can run the risk of hurting the amp. Just replace it with the same ohm speaker and you will be fine. Ususally the impedance is printed on the magnet.

If you do replace the door speakers with something else I am looking for a driverside door speaker for my 99 3500 with factory Infinity speakers if the price is right ;)

My exact speaker also went kaput. I'll be replacing them with some Polks.

The Infinity amp is mounted to the stock speaker in such a way as to keep the output transistors cool. You'll need to make something to act as a heat sink. I will probably machine a piece of aluminum to fit the small metal plate on the amp, put some through holes in it and bolt the whole shootin' shebang to the window channel brace that's near the speaker. So--- brace,1. 5 to 2 inch piece of aluminum, amp. And I'd recommend some heat sink compound between the amp and aluminum and even the bracket too so that it effectively becomes more heat sink. Just looked up your fix and am going to try... A factory replacement speaker is $200 from dealer. Have an old 6x9 laying around and will try that. Didn't know the amp will come off the back of speaker... thanks for idea.....

The decal is unreadable on back of speaker, is it a 8-ohm? I have a 4-ohm onhand, but have heard that will mess up my amp.

Put a multimeter on the resistance setting across the two lug terminals on the speaker. It should read about 8 ohms. If you don't have a meter, they are about $7 in Wal-Mart, or a friend will have one. A 4 ohm speaker will draw double the current, and will not be suitable.

Nick.

the speakers are 4ohms you can replace with any speaker you want what happens is you have to cut harness so you can get the two wires that play full sound range I forget what color I have Infinity stereo in my 96 and the door speakers are 6x9's I put in a set of clarion $189 pair I had from a truck before this one and they sound great and no problem with anything I use to install stereos and build custom speaker boxes out of my parents garage growing up so I know allittle about this stuff. I take it your truck should have same stuff as mine but can't remeber off hand

HOWDY. .

Does any one know if it makes any differance on years for the speakers?

I mean will 2006 (or any year) talk/work in a 98 infinity system??

THANKS

I have two factory Infinity speakers I just pulled out of my 01. 5. Send me a PM. You can have them for the cost of shipping.

I just replaced all of mine and the head unit. it is definately worth the upgrade. I have all the speakers and radio in great donsition though

For those of you who might be interested in a new head unit with your factory infinity speakers (only God knows who you would)

There are line levelers that can drop the high output of an aftermarket CD player to an (adjustable) appropriate level for the Infinity amps. I did this with a bose system in a Mazda and it worked flawlessly until someone jacked the CD player. Dig around on the internet and you can find them.

So are these factory systems Like a Bose in the fact that they use low resistance or do they use a higher impedence? I haven't messed with a factory infinity system.

Amps An Speakers.

HELLO. .

I have a 98 Dodge Ram with the Infinity system,,of course the front speakers are blown.

I bought a set of INFINITY speakers but they were 4 Pin connectors an mine are 6 Pin.

Any one got any ideas on how to convert?

I had some OLD speaker an tried to jump the contacts to see if I could get to work,,but three differant wires gave me SOUND!!... Just wondering if one pin or color wire is best for hooking up to after market speakers??

THANKS

Mike
