2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Special socket for front calipers

What do you call the socket needed to get the front calipers off an 02 and where do you buy one?

I used a Torx bit when I replaced the front pads on mine. I don't remember the size.

i don't know if they are the same on the later truck but the pins on my truck are 7mm allen, easy to remember for me because they are the same pins as the bmw's i work on daily, matter of fact i replaced them with bmw pins when i did the last brake job because they were fairly worn out and the bimmers were handy

I went to NAPA and I think they called them a reverse Torx, but the largest size they sell wasn't big enough.

It's a good sized Torx. Maybe a T-25?

I got the Lisle set that's sold at just about all car parts store. It's one of the bigger ones in that set.

I do my brakes once every 100K miles. Couldnt justify Mac or Snap-on for only that much use.

I've driven plenty on L. I. so I know why. :-laf

I just tool around here in the pine barrens, or out to Pa on the PA turnpike.

A lot of my driving is highway.

Do you guys realize what I’m asking for? A socket for an external TORX bolt. Not a TORX bit that fits a 3/8 ” or ½” drive wrench, I have those.



I went to NAPA first and the largest they sell is something like E-35. There are none on there website except http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPag...PartNumber=9223&Description=GearWrench+-+Torx which only goes up to E-24. I went to Sears yesterday and apparently the largest socket they sell is E-16. I went to Tractor Supply, they had none (what a surprise). I went to the Dodge dealership Parts and Service departments. They spoke to one of their mechanics who said they got it from Mac Tools. I can’t find any on their website.

I tried Snap-On online and the biggest they show is E-24 http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...3&group_ID=370&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog .



I’m wondering now if the E numbers match the T numbers; As in, is an E-45 socket is the same size as a T-45 bit? If you look at the specs and the picture, it would seem the answer is they don’t match. http://www.dealtime-direct.com/ast7806.html



Or is there another way to get the pads out without removing the calipers?



Two days ago my front brakes started squealing like a pig. I need to replace them ASAP.

If you look at the specs and the picture, it would seem the answer is they don’t match" I just went out and checked my 06, the bolts on it have a hex head, felt like in the 12 MM range. Also got my Torx drives and sockets. The E-8 socket fits T-40 drive, E-10 fits T-50 and E-12 fits T-55. E-12 is pretty big, doubt it will be larger than that. bg
