Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Specs on Regrind Cams

I have found a buddy that is willing to grind a cam down to whatever specs I want but I do not have any specs to go off of and I know that in paying 550 or 575 for the regrind you are actually buying the specs but I was just wondering if I could get the specs from anyone and soon please, I had a gear housing bust on me from a dow pin drop and I am wanting to get the cam ground and back in so I cam go to dyno days in indianapolis. I want the cam to match up to a EEP regrind or a Piers regrind. The truck is still going to be a everyday driver and at the same time it is going to be a sled puller in the summer time. I have no intensions of fly cutting the pistons or anything else to accomidate the cam install. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I don't think anybody in there right mind will give out there specs. It would be like ******* in there wheates. (not a nice thing)

Contact Piers Diesel or Diesel Dynamics, both sell good cams. They might be more reasonable than you think.



Joe Donnelly wrote some time ago that Lawrence couldn't regrind a Cummins "marine" cam to do what they wanted, so they started from scratch?





Diesel Dyn. claims to have a tech that can change a cam in 3-4 hrs. . very impressive! According to an older post he had mucho experience to the tune of 150 swaps? Now thats R&D!





Hope I haven't perverted what I "remembered" anyhow, go with a reputable vendor and save the hassle of R&D. Sometimes its cheaper not to reinvent the wheel!

cams specs

You could just use a degree wheel and a dial indicator and read a cam in a truck. I believe that the valve events are advanced somewhat. good luck Jim

Thanks for the replies, I just went ahead and ordered a cam from piers today. I was tired of messing with it. It was only 625 shipped to me. I will appreciate it in the long run, because I considered just putting factory cam back in and I know that I would kick my ass over and over again if I did that, but thanks I will let you know how it works out. Thanks
