yes that,s right. the speedo vss is driven by the gear vendor thing on the xmission. forgot to mention that we are 4wd and have had truck since new. Thanks again for any help.

just wanted to get my memory straight on the gear vendor story. The gear vendor tailshaft is only about 2 inches from the gas tank. They have a small right angle gear setup which goes to an 18 inch cable which goes to the gear vendor speed sensor which is then attached to the speedo vss. That right angle gear is the weak link and I,m on my third one. The latest one I put in on dec 2010 and has 6k miles on it. I pumped the zerk fitting on the right angle gear with more grease and checked the 18 inch cable which also has 6k miles and all looked good. Retested the truck and still get only 58 on the speedo. Called gear vendor and they say nothing in their equipment would cause the problem. That,s good since the righr angle gear is almost impossible to get to. I bought one of Genos magnetic fingers to prepare for the next time I have to work on it. Since I,m coming up on 76 maybe it will last a lifetime.
