I am still working out the prototype mount for the 6. 7. It has not been as easy as we had wanted it to be. As the Return oil line must be on the Turbo side of the engine the filter mount must therefore be on the turbo side of the engine. I have tried several locations on the fire wall and the fender wall none satisfactorily. Currently we are working on an engine mount which is showing more promise. The turbo return oil mod was supplied by Mundgyver and this works very well. Supporting the filter, providing MTCE access and ensuring no oil leaks has proven more of a challenge. Everything can be done with enough time, my truck is on the road 7 days a week and therefore it does not allow for much down time. Once the few remaining snags have been worked out I will post the results complete with pictures of the mount for those interested. Several companies provide support for the Spinner and if one does not answer I suggest calling another. Some want far to much for the product and others while the price is lower provide zero support. This filter is the smallest one on the market which will provide reasonable control of the excessive soot caused by the EGR valve and the effects of the High EGT caused by the third injector cycle for the required Active Regeneration Cycle. I will also post before and after oil sample analysis as well for those interested. Just be patient as my time is very limited for work on the truck.

anyone want to comment bring the thread up to date any 3rd gens running this setup? I still want one just never got around to getting one and I am leaning towards a fs2500 or amsoil due to the availability ease of install(comes with hoses fittings) and peace of mind-one less part moving at extreme high RPMs!

every time I get the bug to buy this unit I cant find it anywhere
only one on ebay for $280 far more than it was when I looked back in 2005

btw $506 on iowa 80 truckstop site

I had thought about that also, just mounting it to the valve cover. Problem was clearance in the front but ok in the back. Next problem was would I have clearance inside the cover for the bolts to hold it down with. My thinking was that the valve train is rather close to the cover. Thats whay I mounted the way I did. I suppose I could have just had it welded down to the cover. They are both mad out of aluminum.

I like the idea of TIG welding this directly to the valve cover. The Spinner 2 is only 6" high so, if clearance is an issue towards the front of the cover, why not leave the oil fill cap alone, and drill a new 1" hole near the middle, back of the cover, and then tig the base of the spinner directly to the cover, centeered over the hole. That way, there would be no fasteners to interfere with the valve train, etc, and only one hose to port , which could be done with the turbo port like other have suggested. It would also be secure... I would think that since all the moving parts of the Spinner are replaceable from the inside, unless the base developed a crack, there would be no problem with not being able to remove the base from the valve cover. Of course, all of this is easy to talk about, but doing it is another matter. Still, I do like the idea...

dark horse does the deal you made me last January still stand? I thought you had given up on me and sold that thing months ago I still feel bad for semi committing and then leaving you hanging.

I feel like like an apostle as many times as I have resurrected this thread!

Darkhorse and Rivercat, if you guys don't strike a deal, or change your mind, and you still want to sell yours, then DO give me a PM. I would definitely like to do this mod. Thanks, Clark

Ill be honest I do want it but the wifey says it will have to be next month or even later till we can spend the cash. That being said I cannot expect you to wait any longer than you already have and will hold no blame what so ever if you chose to sell it now to Seafish.

I have had a spinner 25 sitting around for a couple of years now and I came up with this idea about a year ago but I don't have access to a welder or know anyone who can weld aluminum. If you are close to Virginia we may be able to get this done on my truck. I have done some measuring and I think it will fit. It can't go dead center as there is already something there but I think that it will fit right behind the fill cap.

Well, unfortunately I am on the West Coast, but if Darkhorse and I strike a deal, then I would certainly like to collaborate with you on this. Mine is an 2005 also; I have never held or seen a spinner yet, so at this point I am in the dark as to what might work in mounting it on the valve cover; But once I get one, I will start trying things out. Can you tell me in the meantime where the oil supply to the Spinner comes from?? If I remember right, it's important for the oil to be as HOT and thin as possible when it enters the Spinner.

I was going to take my oil supply from one of the ports on the top of the oil filter head. I have been told that this is the best spot for a supply and I am faily sure that the FS2000 and other oil filtration systems use the same port. IIRC its a 1/8 npt fitting.

That makes sense... I didn't realize there were ports on the oem filter head. I will check the size of the fittings and then eventually have my local hydraulic store make me a custom SS braided hose with the correct fittings on each end. Also, I would point out that a TDR member, Stepehen Kondolay, is making custom SS valve covers for our motors. I don't know if they are stiff enough to support mounting a spinner on them, but I might look into it so that I can fabricate the Spinner/valve cover arrangement without losing use of my truck; Since they are SS, instead of aluminum, I would have to use 4 flush/countersunk SS bolts from the underside of the cover to go into the mounting plate of the spinner. Just an idea for now.

i've been following this thread for a while now.

could some one post a photo of the oil ports above the filter head. this is my first cummins. and i'm new to diesel. i have a 08, that i'm planning on installing a pre-lube/after lube pump on, along with a spinner unit. i need to get a few more fittings and the spinner before the install starts.

i have a franz bypass filter on the ranger.

At the time I purchased my spinner, several years ago, none of these other units were on the market that I could see. At that time the spinner was or seemed to be the best unit that made sense to me.

Now that time has moved forwared and I am a little more edjumicated, I am working on a better version of the spinner process that will clarify the oil of all the soot in one pass. Instead of using . 9 gpm, I'm looking to run the flow at 1 gph.

It's a work in progress. :)
