ok members help me if you can. 93 auto 2wd has anyone installed a centrifuge on your 1st gen? if so where did and how did you mount it. I just mounted one on my 02 sits on top of the alt bracket but it wont work on the 93 as i can see . suggestions.

For those of us scratching our noggins right about now, could you explain what/why a centrifuge? I used one in chemistry in school but don't really know what the application under the hood of a Cummins would be. Is it for filtration??

I presume he's referring to a centrifugal type oil bypass filtration unit, more commonly used on Class 8 rigs since compressed air is already available?

I'm not sure, how's it driven? I've seen the ones on the old Case 2870/4890 tractors with the 674ci Scandanavian engines... . it has a coned rotor with a small bypass filter for startup and cold weather... . it was driven off the cam through a small gear like a distributor on a gas engine..... Any pics of design, drive? Website for the product?

After looking around the web, I saw this on a 2nd gen 24v..... Spinner II Centrifuge Model 25 installation on the Dodge pickup with the Cummins 5. 9l diesel engine

Cool! That helps clear it up for me. I wouldn't buy one for my old truck though. My Uncle has north of 640K on his old 12 valve and it still has no appetite for oil between changes. Maybe would be worth putting on a newer Cummins?

I do sometimes think about stuffing a compressor under the hood though with a locomotive air horn. That would be good bang for my buck. :-laf

The Spinner2 is designed to work from the oil pressure on our trucks.

It is VERY effective at removing soot and other particles, so it would be ideal to get one to work on a 3rd or 4th gen truck.

There are some other older threads here that describe some peoples desires and attempts to make them work.

I plan on fitting one onto my truck eventually... it is sitting in a box in my garage awaiting the day that never seems to come. #@$%!

centrifuge

sorry for being away for a few days. the subject has been discussed in past forums I just remember the 2nd gen apps. this unit does remove any contaminates from the oil and runs off the oil pressure it feeds back into the eng via gravity that being the problem it needs to be mounted high to feed oil into the fill tube or valve cover I cant find a clear spot to mount it so will go to the archives and search. I am using these units because i dont use my trucks for long periods of time but when i do i really use them for lots of short runs, im concerned about acid in the oil by moisture contaminates so i also use synthetic oil. over kill yeh but i keep my vehicles so long they become too good to give away and not good enough to sell therefore I just keep them. thanks for all the replies. K. E.
