i was out playing with the truck last night and the truck seems to be missing in 1st gear as soon as it hits second gear it's pulling hard and runs great, it will do this 3 out of 4 launches on 5x5 around 10lbs of boost... . any ideas?

lots of fuel PSI and no codes

Scott

my truck did the same thing at the track. If I launched with over 15 psi boost it would do it, under 15 psi it was fine. No idea, maybe some kind of torque management? Doesn't make sense tho.

It sounds like you are feeling the torque limiting, that is built into the computer on the 01 and 02 autos. BD sells a device called a RAD (racer's anti defueler), that eliminates the torque limiter. Mine will do it once it hits ~20psi, just after launch if I don't have the RAD turned on. If you have all billet shafts, you can power brake it to about 20psi, and you will feel (and see on your boost guage), it defuel. The downside to the RAD is that you will lose your tach when it's turned on.

The Smarty will also eliminate the torque limiting... .

You should give Rip at Source Automotive . I know when I talked to him earlier he had a used RAD, as well as a bunch of Smarties. He could give you a better idea on what to use, as he as raced with both.

Thanks for the info Paul

i know a few people with 01-02 trucks and never had this problem, is it in all 01 -02's?

i have never seen it before the turbo and injectors were installed.

Thanks

I'm not really sure what all triggers it. I know I didn't have much of a problem until I upgraded my Comp box to a Drag Comp. I don't think you will feel it much with a lightly fueled truck. As far as I know all 01 and 02 trucks with an auto will have the issue, once you add enough fuel.

I guess it's time to spend more money :-laf

Paul, do you have an extra room for me after the wife finds out i am spending more money on this truck LMAO :-laf :-laf

i have the same problem with my truck. very frustrating and annoying. at the line in 5x5 i will hold it to about 2000rpm, but then it spits and sputters, even with out launching it. launch it and it still does it. mine is through all the gears , and while under acceleration but all right aroud 2000rpm. sound about the same?

Nope, the torque limit will only do it in first and second. Most of the time you only feel it in first. Have you ever gotten a timing code (1690 I beleive)?

Paul

no, i had the codes ran and there were none. no service engine light or anything. took the edge out completly and still does it very slightly. hard to notice it since not much power. i bought a new map sensor, its worth a shot i guess, but i doubt it fixes it.

I had the same type of thing, except it would miss (and actually briefly defuel), at 2200 rpm. I had almost 100,000 miles on it, and decided to put a new VP44 on it. I also replaced the cam sensor at the same time. One of the two fixed the problem...
