Splicing into overhead console power

I bought a Garmin C530 GPS (nice!) and plan to mount it semi-permanently above the rearview mirror.

I'd like to power the unit from the overhead console, if possible. (instead of running wires thru the headliner all the way under the dash). I don't want wires hanging from the unit to the power plug.

Can I splice into power up there?

How do I get the console apart?

Yes you can get power from the overhead. I powered my sat radio from there but I could only find power that was on even with the key off. I am like you I did not want wires seen or have to go long distance for juice.

The first is the sat radio at the overhead.



The second is were you "unclip" the overhead. The arrow is pointing to the clip you squeeze (there is 2 clips one on each side) Squeeze the clips at the same time and slide the overhead towards you all at the same time.

You can get both constant 12v and ignition 12v on the center consoles, I have a led that is tied into the ignition 12v and switch power for my switches is on the constant.
