what i would like to know is how much of a difference is there between a 16 housing and an 18. 5 on spool up? will the 18. 5 be ok with the set up i have right now? this is only for a short while so i can save some money to get a bigger turbo. i can get to 1300*+ pretty fast. i would also like to know if this will help my egts from getting hot so fast? any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks richard

im not sure but i have not heard of to many people running 18. 5 housings on our trucks unless they have hx 40s. not to say they are not out there though

I would go with the 16 and stay away from the 18. 5 as even with all that fuel it will take you a century to get that spooled with that large of a housing. I haven't really heard of anyone running that large of a turbine. Most people who have your set-up, the HX-40/16 is the way to go. And even after that most just go to twins if they are running any more fuel than what the 370s can put out.

the reason for asking this question is because i can get a 18. 5 housing for less than $50. this will not be on for to long. it will only be on for about 2-3 months. im trying to save up for an hx40 or an htb2. i just need a housing a little more free flowing. thanks richard

Yes you will be fine with the 18. 5 the egts will rise a little slower but it will still get hot on a hard pull. Spool Up will be a little slower too but not that bad and you will loose some boost and have more smoke.

im not to worried about the smoke or the boost press. right now with the things i have done to the truck i can get about 36-38 psi so i guess i can lose a few pounds and be right back in the range of a hx35. the reason for the housing is so egts will come up a little slower. my egt gauge will almost move as fast as my boost gauge will when i go into lockup pushing it pretty good.

the housing im getting came off a 93 cummins. im not sue if they were w/g or not. can someone tell me if they were or not?

I would slide the plate back & save your $50. 00 toward the 40 turbo which is what you need anyways then slide the plate fowards again.

Do you still have the cat on?

Bob
