For turnkey plug and play OR nearly plug and play, I have found 3 options:

Daniel Stern Kit- some assembly required

suvlights.com plug and play harness

BrightBox a plug and play version just for the conversion.

Does Summit Racing still over their version?

I am inclined NOT to go the Daniel Stern route because I just want to plug and play.

Is there any advantage to the BrightBox vs. the suvlights.com harness?

Does the BrightBox take the load off of the OEM switch and wiring OR is the power for the box just that, powering the box only?

I want a reliable system that isn't going to overheat the housings, I have read in a few threads where too many elements burning causes the housing to overheat and yellows the reflector.

I guess I am thinking 8 elements burning may be too much heat, not sure how many elements burn on high beam with each solution????

Any comments would be appreciated.

Mellow yellow

My housings are now yellow...

From running all four low beams at same time and all 4 high beams during high beam operation?

Who Knows?

SUV lights can configure the lights anyway you want.

I kinda think the housings have yellowed due to sun exposure and cheaper plastic.

I purchased the Depo lights about 3 or 4 years ago.

Hmm

Thats about how long the stock lights lasted before they turned yellow... .

Maybe it's just wear and tear.

I'll replace the lights next year and I will keep all 4 lights lit.

Probably won't do the bright box low high thing.

Interesting note. .

The low beam filiment in the "high" beam bulb burns out real fast. .

Like 3 months...

I have no idea why... ...

Maybe thats what DC didn't wire it that way?

It sure does throw alot of usable light!!!!:eek:

I’ve got the SUV lights harnesses and burn all 4 on high beams. I’ve only had them for 7 months so it may be too early to comment on the yellowing. I will say that the harnesses (one for each side) were very easy to install. It really is plug and play. I figured the money saved on trying to build my own would be lost in the time it took to gather the parts and assemble the harnesses. The sport lights and the harnesses are one of the best changes I have made to the truck.

I'll try to answer some of your questions from both of your Sport lamp threads.

Virtually all aftermarket lamps that mimic the second-generation Sport lamps are made by DEPO (DEer POrt, Taiwan). They are distributed in the USA by Maxzone.

I have the DEPO brand lamps. As others have mentioned, the OEM rubber welt should be reused instead of the welt included with the lamps. I have had zero yellowing in five years of use. One of the corner lamps developed a leak at a joint after about four years, easily sealed with super thin cyanoacrylate glue (hobby shop).

THE BRITE BOX™ from Baker Auto Accessories would not be plug & play on the Sport lamps in a non-Sport Ram as the Sport wiring to the lamps is needed.

The inboard (9004) low beam filaments are not used in the OEM install and the lamp reflector is likely not designed for their use. My homebrew harness initially lit all eight lamp filaments when high beams were selected. After a few months of use I cut the power to the inboard low beam filaments. Heat was damaging the reflector.

After almost five years burning six filaments there is no further damage.

I suggest you take a look at this link and talk with, Tim about his lights, he builds them himself with good connectors its all plug and play,

HID Products & Prices II - Dodge Talk Community Forum

I just ordered up lights and fogs from him, I have studied this in depth and most guys are selling crap for the first thing the second they dont know anything about the product there claiming is the best, and third there burning down trucks wiring. also a cheap price usually means cheap bulbs and ballast's, good stuff costs a few bucks but most guys stand behind there product for life.

what ever you do go with a guy that builds them and has been around awhile there are a few around, also just a fyi when looking at HID bulbs the ratings run backwards, so like a 4300K is much brighter than a 8K bulb.

I went with 4300K in both lights and fogs.

Peace, B.

I would suggest the Daniel Stern set up. He does offer an assembled package for an additional charge that is 100% plug and play. That is what I did and am very pleased with the outcome. He also recommended NOT running the High and Low beams together because of the additional heat generated in the housing. I tried running the bright box and was not impressed. As stated above, ended up with yellow lens and another burned out light switch.
