I pulled the trigger and have received my new Depo Sport Headlights from Geno's for the '97.

The truck also needs rocker panels this summer but being a bling luvin' truck driver at heart I'm doing the headlights first (It's in my DNA)... ... plus don't want to tackle the panels until the left arm works as good as the right one... ...

After reading some fine DIY's and such from FireFighter 2000 and other talented folks I still have a question...

Is the outside bulb low beam??? There seems to be some confusion on the internet about that very thing.

Before I build my harness and relay set up I would like to be confident which is low beam so I don't upset some cranky, axe wielding logger on a dark rainy night... ... I'm going to do dual bulb highs and single bulb lows.

Any and all responses welcome... ... .

When I did mine on my old rig, both bulbs were on at high and low beam. From what I understand that is how it is supposed to be. I had my wife drive it towards me with low beams on when I was in my car and it wasnt offensive, and I never had anybody flash lights at me. I have not got around to doing the sport conversion on the 01, the light housing themselves are in great shape (aftermarket) but it is the one bulb unit, so it is not nearly as bright as the sport lights I got used to I had on the 99

The law says 2 low beam and 4 hi
I don't remember the placement,I'll have to cl that

Found this. . thinking that the 9007 on the outside is the low beam in stock form.

I'm good with wiring it up, I just wanted to make sure that I got the correct bulb and reflector working on low beam. Thanks for the link to the harness and I appreciate you taking the time to dig it up.

I looked the Depo lights over again last night and I'm going with the 9007 that is to the outside of the unit. The reflector is bigger which would make sense to me for the flood pattern.

I'm only going with 2 on low beam, don't want to spend my time fighting with LEO's and people flashing me because they see 4 lights on low.

Like Bob 4X4 said, 2 on low and 4 on high. I had my State Of Maine Inspection License right up until a few years ago and there is no way that I would pass a vehicle with 4 low beams showing.

2 low beams and 2 fogs, that is all you can have per the law.

Yes, the outer bulb is the low. 9007 is a dual-filament bulb, but I'm sure you can wire it withut hooking up the high. I don't know how the stock Sport wiring works, as I have a conversion from standard lights using the SUVLights.com harness, but oncoming vehicles seldom flash me. Then again, I don't have to worry about state inspection.

I got the sport lights from Headlight Depot back with the conversion harness back in the summer and was going to install them last weekend. I was looking at the harness they supply and saw that it gives 1 beam on each light. The 9007 is high and the 9004 is the low beam (or vice versa) on each light. That's a cheap POS for sure. Looks like I'm going to have to do some adapting. :D
I was hunting around to see how many bulbs were supposed to be on for low and high beam when I found this thread.
Thanks guys.

On my '02 the high beam is used at 1/2 power as a daylight running light. The wiring diagram shows that Chrysler adds a relay to the high beam indicator lamp on the dash to control the second high beam. Clever.

I'm Driving from FL to NY. My Suvlights harness had been acting up again - all bulbs worked on low but pass side shut off entirely on hi. So I'm stopped for food and to walk the dogs and i see my drivers light is on even though the switch is off. This happened on the pass side before - stuck POS relay. I said F it and yanked the whole POS harness out in the Krystal burger parking lot!

First impression: the lights again work as Dodge intended -- pathetically dim. I will never own a vehicle without running 12v relays to the headlights, and I will never again buy anything from Suvlights.

I have firefighter200's diagram, just too lazy to build it. Shame on me.
