I have a 99 sport. What is the difference in headlight setup between the sport and regular? Do the headlights on the sport suffer from the same poor wiring (and burning out switch) as the regualr second gens? Is it advisable to get the summit kit or will that not work on the sport lights?

Thanks

Phil

I bought the summit kit and it didn't work... had the wrong connectors. I got the kit from britebox when I did the sport conversion. Since you already have sport lights you could just get the britebox kit for your year of truck. Depending on the year, they have a kit to take the load off your switch. Just call them and tell 'em what you've got and they'll hook you up.

OEM second-generation Sport lamps use 9007 bulbs (55/65) in the outboard sockets and 9004 bulbs (45/65) in the inboard sockets. Only the two outboard low beam filaments burn when low beams are selected. Only the four high beam filaments burn when high beams are selected.

The wire gauge used for the front lighting is similar on the non-Sport and Sport Rams. The non-Sport trucks use no relays in the headlamp circuit. The Sport Rams use a single relay in the headlamp circuit, to switch the 9004 high beam filaments only.

The headlight switch is the same on non-Sport and Sport Rams. The same contacts in the headlight switch are used for either low or high beams. The only additional current Sport Rams add versus the non-Sport Rams is about a fifth of an amp for the relay mentioned earlier. The use of the relay suggests to me that D/C engineers know the switch is marginal with the non-Sport lamps .

Can you give me some infor on the sport light conversion? I have a 99 that I would like to convert. Would also like to run the fog lights too. Total dollars would be helpful.

Thanks

I switched over to the sport lights, and made it so that all bulbs fire on low and hi beam. (4 on low, 8 filiments on hi)

The stock switch assy only controls the relays on my truck now. 12v is direct from the batteries.

The difference is difficult to put to words.

Amazing???

Just to throw this out there. . for those of you` interested in a sport conversion without cutting/tapping wires. . You can get the sport lamps from ebay for 150-200 depending on the bid and company. .

Geno's Garage carries the entire line of brite box' and they have the "non sport input, sport wires output" box available. I hate to shoot a price but it was less than $175

This would make it a straight forward install for the $$$

If anyone has a non-dealer source for the headlights that doesn't include ebay. . give me a yell please.
