Using the 9004 can't hurt the housing because it is just using a 55 watt filament instead of the 25 or 30 that is in the 9007 when the low beams are on. The high wattage bulbs might warp the housings, but I will see in a while. I ran the 80/100 bulbs in my old single-bulb lights with no problem for about three months.

I was running 80/100 watt bulbs on my truck for a while. It didnt warp the light reflectors, but the POS (got it from JC Whitney) cheapie bulb blew up and turned my housing blue on the inside. Kind of like a blue cataract. :D

Thats why I got the sport lights. It dont really effect the lighting ability, but I dont like it.

Eric

BTW I do about 50% night driving, and the bulbs were in for about 6 months. Mostly low beam driving. This is also with the stock wiring harness.

9007 has 55W low/65W high

The 9007 is actually a superior bulb for low beam, especially since that's what the reflector was designed for. All the manufacturers have been moving away from 9004 for a while. Look at the filaments on each bulb - they run fore/aft on 9007 and side/side on 9004. A 9004 will almost surely have glare issues, streaks, and dark spots in the beam pattern on the road. I haven't tried it personally, so I don't know for sure, but I know where I'd place my bet. JMHO.

CAnderson - the reason the 9007 seems so poor is that the connector is pinned wrong! I've been through exactly the same situation. Although the connector is common to the 9004, it is wired differently. Looking from the back of the bulb, a 9007 has LOW on the left, GROUND in the center, and HIGH on the right. That's why yours works better on the 9004 bulb - it must be wired for that bulb. Try repinning the connector and I'll bet you'll be happy.

Euro

I wonder if the euro are e-code headlights which are a better lighting pattern or are they dot approved . I have ecode headlights with 80/100w in my Cherokee and would not go back to sealed beams.

Yep, looks like I spoke too soon. Oh well. I really should have looked into that some more.   :) Ok, make that two 80/100w 9004s and two 80/100w 9007s. It will be cool. :D :D

bulbs

canderson, what brand are the bulbs sold by Susquehanna? i couldn't find a brand name mentioned on the site. are they Hella?

i've tried 80/100 bulbs from JCWhitney. the Wagner BL"s are brighter, so the 80/100's were trash as far as iwas concerned.....
