Sport Headlights in, need wiring advice

Okey Doke, I installed my Depo Sport Headlights this morning. The mechanical part of the installation went very easy. I lowered the bumper about an inch--didn't have to take it all the way off, and I did drill two 3. 5 inch holes with a hole saw through the sheet metal on my '95, and Sawzalled the rest out. Cutting took about 15 minutes! I cleaned up the cuts with a sanding sleeve and it looks very professional and neat.



Right now I only have the turn signals & the 9004's hooked up with the original wiring set-up. (I ran out of time and had to go to work)



I am considering wiring these lights so that only the 9007 Dims are on when the Dims are lit, but both 9004 & 9007 Brights, as well as the 9004 Dims are on when the Brights are on. That way I'll have 6 lights lighting up when on Bright.

But only the 9007 Dims lighting the way when on Dim. Has anybody done this?



I have also thought about wiring it so that ALL 8 lighting elements are on when I switch to Bright and all 4 Dim elements are on when I switch it on Dim. But, I have heard this may overheat the plastic headlight housings.



So my question is has anybody wired their Sports up either of these two ways and had problems? Or has anybody done this and had NO problems?

Or maybe you have wired yours another way?

where did you get the sport headlights and all the goodies to go with it?? I would like to make that my next BOMB!!!!

I was running all eight filaments on high-beam (depo lamps). After 10-12 months I noticed that the reflector near the base of the 9004's was starting to get a slight brown color. I no longer use the low beam filaments on the 9004's and don't miss them at all. OEM sports don't use them either. Perhaps the reflectors not being designed for this set of filaments allowed the heat to build up near the 9004 bases.



I run the 9007 low filaments on low-beam and all but the 9004 low filaments on high-beam. The fogs-on-with-high-beam modification along with the sports wired as they are is plenty for my aging eyes. I almost never light the PIAA 60XT's anymore.

Charlan, I got the Headlights from ImportVision, they came with bulbs. About $210 as I recall

I got Insulated Terminal Blocks ($5 each) from Mad Electrical, along with good shrink tubing, and some indespensible connectors. The Terminal blocks are screwed to the inner fenders, near each battery. I soldered a 10 Gauge wire into each battery cable and ran it to each Terminal Block, putting a fusable link at the end of the 10 gauge wire. I can add several other electrical devices to the Terminal Blocks if I want--in addition to headlights.

You will also need a pair of female plugs to wire up to plug into the 9007's. I am still looking for that link. When I find it I'll post. I am making the wiring harness myself--it's easy and better than I can buy. But you can also buy the harnesses.

Another thing to think about is that the inner reflector was NOT designed to be used with low beams. When I had mine wired with all four bulbs lit on low I was constantly getting flashed by oncoming cars. That got really old quick so I disconnected the lows on the 9004's.

I have mine so that all lows are on in low beam, and all highs are on when it's on high beam.

It's been about 2 years now and I cant see anything melting etc.

I do at least 1/2 my driving in the dark.
