I've read the threads on swapping from the inferior standard headlites to the Sport style headlites - and wonder if any outfit offers the complete kit for that swap, all wiring, relays and such?

You don't need a complete kit, just get the headlights ( do a search here or call 800 748 2139 that's mopar4less.com) then pull up suvlights.com here or on google and tell you him you want to convert to sport lights. Don't forget to tell him you want all four bulbs on, at least on high. He'll sell you some awesome plugin harnesses, makes the job a snap. Get some Silverstar bulbs, they're legal, and enjoy driving at night. PM me if this isn't enough info. :D

Gary,

I just finished this swap on my '02. I can send you some wiring diagrams if ya need them. It's actually a pretty easy swap, I should have done it sooner!!

02 conversion

I am going to convert my 02 to sport headlight. Is there a wes sight or # for Bright Box?? And I have heard that doing this conversion will tax the stock wiring harness is this true and how does one fix it?? Thanks

YUP - that was the basic reason for my post - figured a complete kit with all needed wiring, relays and plugs would be easier than doing the job piecemeal...

Thanks for the pointers so far guys...

Try Baker Automotive Accessories.

It depends on how you wire it. You can reduce the load on the headlight switch with your properly designed circuit. Also, Baker Auto Accessories shows a Sport lamp transplant/BriteBox combination harness for second generation Rams.

AH! the Daniel Stern kit looks good - $79, plus the cost of the lights themselves- I have plenty of wire...

NOW, do ALL these conversions require the sheetmetal cutting I saw pictured in one conversion - or do the later trucks already have the sheetmetal to accept either type of headlight?

The good thing about running your own wire is it ends up routed exactly how *YOU* want it and the relays can be mounted exactly were *YOU* want, with the pre wired kits I have used it seems like they work fine but never quite fit like I want them to.

I would like to do this on my 1996 do i need to trim sheet metal??? Who has the best price on sport housings??

Yes, you will need to trim the sheet metal. Sorry, I'm not sure who has the bst price on sport headlights.

Yes, a '96 will need to be trimmed. The sheet metal behind the headlamp does not have a relief for the extra bulb. Starting in '99 (or '00) the factory enlarged the hole in that area.

As far as prices go, sorry I can't be of help. You can try www.headlightwarehouse.com or www.ebaymotors.com to see if their prices are in line with what you want to spend.

HTH.

Best price I found for sport housing was $67. 75 at www.certifit.com, according to their we site they don't ship parts. Part #dgtr59d1 for right side, dgtr59d2 for left side for a 2001. Genos has a bright box wiring harness for $149, part # bb-4-2-7+4b-dg. I picked up the lights today, they look good even came with sylvania bulbs I'll probably upgrade the bulbs before I install them. It will be 10 days before I get the harness.
