My stock, 2WD, 5sp, 3500 dually, Ext cab has SEVERE cracks on the rightside springtower. The truck has 150,000 mostly highway miles on it and has never been in a wreck, runs super but is currently "dry docked" at the dealer. The cracks are fatigue and open approx 3/8"! Three weeks at the dealer with no answers yet... car rental bill is doing me in! #ad
I checked the NHTSA site and found that '94 & '95s with "coil and link" suspension have a recall due to cracking spring towers, these are 4WD V10s and CTDs as well as a limited number of 2WD... not mine, it's IFS. Anyone out there seen or heard of this? Did they under build for the 973# monster?

SUPER SITE... lots of knowledge out there!

I had the same problem, mine has a checkout(final on the assembly line) date of nov '95 and they told me the cutoff was april of 95. I was ****** because I had the problem the recall was for, both sides were cracked bad, the drivers side had come about 70% off to were the shock started rubbing and thats was I finally noticed. It ended up they would have fixed it but it was lifted. Bunch of crap if you ask me. I ended up welding it back up and put a big strap all the way around. No problems, prabably much better than they would have done.

Hey eats V8s, Is your '95 IFS or coil & link in the front? 4WD & "chassis cab" use coil & link and are the recalls... IFS seems to put you SOL. Also did you plate over the crack (scab) or just weld them up? Too many questions, but I just got to get this thing back on the road! Car rental bills are doing me in!!!

mine is 4wd, solid front axle with coils. The spring perches on top cracked the same as the recall mentioned. I welded the bracket back together and then welded a plate around the whole tower and about 3" on the frame, way stronger. I can't believe they havn't fixed yours but you may talk with your insurance.
