Alright guys, I need some reassurance. I just bought a few goodies and a sps62 was one of them. Just got everything installed yesterday and have been driving easy making sure everythings ok. I have noticed that I can easily bark the turbo at a little over thirty lbs of boost. Now correct my if Im wrong, but I thought that barking a turbo meant that you were pushing it beyond its effeciancy level. Also, it seems pretty loud at low engine loads and I know its going to be louder than the stocker but now Im kinda paranoid. So what do you guys think, is this just me being a rookie or what?

If it's talking to you (barking) as you are shifting or letting off the go pedal after a blast - that's bound to happen (normal) but, if it's doing this after you are in the next gear and increasing in speed or just going along at a steady pace - I'd be asking some questions to whomever you got it from. Chances are you are fine. And as far as it being louder than the stock one, you probably never took out the silencer ring on the stock one so you wouldn't have heard the turbo whine. There isn't a silencer ring or groove to install one on the after-markets - frankly why wouldn't we want to hear what we paid all the money for?

My gut tells me you are fine. You've put a few miles on it and a spinning turbo does rpms of 10k + there's literally no break in - so "go have some fun!"

What kind of boost numbers are you seeing - a buddy of mine has studs and no waste gate with a 64/16 (+ turbo mystery tweaks/mods) and he sees 60+ boost numbers - just wondering.

I'm running the same turbo- all this sounds normal. I run it at 53-55 psi, this may be at the outer edge of its efficency range, but it works good for me! Also, the drive pressures are 1:1 at that boost level on my truck- this is a great turbo!

I only hear it after letting off the pedal on a short blast, no other time. I havent gotten over 35 lbs of boost because I just put in a new head gasket and studs and want to drive it a few days and check the torque before I start getting on it. Thanks a bunch for the responses, any one else have an opinion?

When I used to run my Silver 62 with my Smarty it would bark on every upshift at light to mid throttle with cooler ambient temps like 40 degrees and cooler. Without Smarty it only barks while running it hard and letting off the go pedal fast.
