I have a proguard 7 (72-90009), and AFE stage one box, and a hollowed out down tube to the turbo.

Even with a brand new filter, the filter minder is going deep into the red with the 66 installed. Source of the FM reading vacuum is in the slight elbow near the MAF sensor, which indicates the restriction is in the tube and most likely not in the air filter itself.

Thus, would installing a AFE stage 2 unit be worth it? I notice the down tube is 6 inches in opening and the filter is somewhat larger.

Who has the best pricing for these? They aint cheap by any means.

Tim,

Its not just the tube. The filter just isnt matched to the amount this turbo can breathe.

The stage 1 does a good job of flowing, but we are definitely in need of more airflow.

I thought the same thing, maybe I can try a run without the filter installed?

The stock FM location is in a low pressure area in the lid, whereas AFE puts it in the tube that has a lot less cross section area. Kind of like having a 12 inch long tube, 6 inches are say 3 inches in diameter, and the other half 1 inch in diameter. If you pulled vacuum from the 1 inch side and read vacuum in the 1 inch area, and in the 3 inch area, you would see a lot more vacuum in the former location vs. the latter.

I think the "Filter Minder" is pretty useless on an aftermarket air intake and filter. I had the AFE Stage I with standard filter and Pro-Gaurd filter. Even with the stock turbo I would pull the minder into the red on full WOT run. You are probably getting plenty of air.

The Filter Minder spring is designed to operate with the stock air box and filter, anything else is very subjective. The new AFE Stage II does not even have a place to install the "Filter Minder". Just my . 02.

It is still somewhat an indicator of air flow or vacuum.

With the B104 I could pull it down most of the way under high boost conditions.

With the PHAT SHAFT I can max the gauge out with little effort.

The AFE Stage 2 is a nice filter and we do have them. But I am running a Air raid on my 04. 5 6 speed and have had great results. The price is about half of a AFE Stage 2. This might be a good option if you are considering price. Thanks, Brady

I looked at the airraid site, and it looks as if they don't have a bigger tube to the turbo, but rather use the stock set up. I think the stock air tube (even if you bypass the finned silencer, is a significant part of the restriction. the AFE is I think 6 inches in diameter at the filter.

after swiss-cheesing my air box, with stock filters, I'm not able to suck down the guage at all with my stock filter. :)

Make sure the senor is far from the Turbo (heat),otherwise your fan will engage at most start ups.

DUDE, detail that motor, and spray some tire dressing on it, including all the plastic under the hood. My god, we in California not only detail the exterior, but under the hood as well! :p

Maybe because you don't have a turbo upgrade that could suck paint off a barn if it got close enough ;)

When this sps 66 spools up, I can see leaves on the ground getting sucked up, woman's skirts blowing toward the fender, and trees swaying. . :-laf

Someone Left the Hood open at the Transfer Station (Me). It is only dust,I have connections with Bio-clean systems, The Engine is wash once a Week with a Two step down stream injection system. When it is done it looks showroom. It only was a high of 21* here today so it never left the shop.

I have a cummins Program that I will be flashing tomorrow I hope it works,The cable I needed from SPX miller show up today(FedEx). I will take that advice and wash it!!!.

Can it flash multiple ECM's? If so, I'd like to rent it from you :D

What I need is a Vin# engine serial #. Both have to be un-salvageable,The original is deleted, but the Vin and serial# are good,so in the future you can have DC for $90. 00 to $120. 00 re flash to stock programing with the original Vin and engine serial #,Skim codes are a PITA so I don"t do them. I also will not flash any ECM that had a aftermarket program loaded. Of course you will lose your warranty.

I will not Buy a aftermarket program, they contaminate the Vin & engine serial. In most cases the Dealer will demand new hardware before they will flash a contaminate ECM. The first step in this process is to recognize Vin without it you have hope in one hand and ----- in the other.
