Wow, right after install this turbo was a little louder than stock (both turbos with the stock box) 600 miles later the sps66 is WAY louder, in fact I cancelled an afe stage 2, I love the sound but I think it's about right as is.

Sorry about the run-on sentence, it's too early in the morning for composition.

The music mine makes should win an emmy. I have afe stage I/TT and Banks high flow muffler, nothing restrictive inbetween. It is obviously louder than stock, I still had the silencer ring.

I do not think it is tooo loud, just right. I do love hearing it out the 5" tip while idleing.

No, it's a Super Phat Shaft 66. Different manufacturer. Search on the Products/Accessories Engine and Transmission page. There's a multiple page thread about it.

My first Cummins so I dont have any idea how the SPS 66 compares to the other bigger singles, but I know how it works on my Cummins and mods. It is great. Normal daily driving I run the Juice Level1 and EZ Level1 and the lag is not any more noticable than stock was. When I lite it up things happen fast enough. HOT Juice Level 5/EZ Level 3 smoke clears fast, EGTs never hit 1300* and I have to hold on because if feels like the jet it sounds like. When I glance at the boost gauge, it is in the 42-44psi range and it got there quick.

industrialinjection.com is the place to see and read (a little bit) about the sps66. I too went from stock to this turbo so I have no experience with other aftermarket turbos. I will say that I was a little worried about lag and daily drivability but it's fine. So far I'm real happy with the purchase.

your new turbo got louder after it got some miles?? i just got a new ht2b and its quiter then my stocker... i miss the sound :D

In this months TDR mag, my first, it states that the head bolts are good up to 50psi. when they used an Aurora 5000 turbo. I'm sure they still could be added when a big single is used especially since the boost comes on so quick. I am in need of a big single, stock 05 turbo just isn't cutting it anymore. There are so many choices though? Any other suggestions? The sled puller looks good and so does the3 aurora 5000.

yeah I'm no expert on turbos either, but I've been told 45-50lbs is fine on stock head bolts. I think BD says their little twins (55lbs) are fine on stock head bolts though I'd be a nervous wreck at 55lbs. For a pretty big turbo the sps66 spools better than I thought, Tommygun says the sled puller 66 spools well also. Hell my sps66 is perfectly drivable with the tst on 0,0. Not near the fun as 4,4 or 5,5 however!! :D

I am pretty comfortable with the boost pressure. The SPS66 is wastegated at 50psi by default. I have seen the same posts and articles that indicate 50psi is ok on stock head bolts and gasket. I have not really seen mine over 45psi so far. I guess that I need a little more fuel to make that happen. I could hit 44psi with the Quad Race box with the stock turbo. That did kind of scare me. My EGTs are so much lower now it is still hard to believe.

Your SPS66 must be differently wastegated. Have you seen 50PSI on it? We have really had to turn the wastegate in to get it to 50PSI. It was openeing about 35PSI. I talked with HTT and they said that we were not the first person to say that. We are shooting for 50PSI.

oops I may have misread it . SPS is probably super phat shaft 66(industrial injection) and SP66 is sled puller 66(HTT). I am sure there are some differences, but i think both are based off of the Borg Warner desigh

RE: Phat Shaft 66

Just clearing up a few things. The Super Phat Shaft 66 turbo is made by Industrial Injection Diesel Performance. It is not the same as the Sled Puller 66. Our turbo has a larger exhaust side (lower turbo drive pressure) this will help exhaust temps to be lower. There are many 66mm comp wheels offered by Borg Warner but our turbo offers the most aggressive comp. wheel available to the after market. The personel at Borg Warner believe in the Super Phat Shaft and have helped all along the way. Thanks 1-800-955-0476
