I've been having a sputtering issue in the past few months, and its been getting worse. .

1995 dodge ram

12v cummins

145,000 miles

Basically when I start the truck up after sitting for a 1-2hr time, enough time to cool down, I will start her up, and it will run a little rough, cause the idle is too low, I havent adjusted it lately. .

then ill put it in gear, and go, then around 1300-1400 rpm it will sputter and smoke, and I will get ZERO boost, it will bark, and pop, then once I give it some more pedal about 1900-2000rpm, it will get through it, and never do it again, only for that first run, when its semi cold. .

Mind you, its been doing it worse because its colder then usual outside, like 50-60*, but it will do it in the dead of summer as well at 90-100*. .

What do you guys think? Maybe heading through a turbo/Headgasket/fuel pump?? Im getting 0 boost during those times, so, is it possible?

Heres my setup. .

#5 fuel plate Pushed to the limit

370 Bosche Marine injectors

BHAF

AFC spring kit

HX35 turbo / 14mm Exhaust housing

KDP killed

Straight piped W/ Stacks

1 year old "new style" lift pump direct from cummins, got a loud ticking sound coming from it as well. .

A couple other things I cannot think of at the moment. .

Lemme know what you think. . Its been getting worse. .

Jordan,

Email me at -- email address removed -- for my write up on the 12 valve fuel supply system, how it works and how to fix it.

I bet your timing has slipped. I've had 2 12V trucks and both sputtered on cold accel. I cured both of them by putting the timing around 15 degrees.

I keep hearing about timing. . Wondering if that isnt the culprit. .

I have never check or adjusted the timing at all while owning the truck. .

Ill email you in the morning to the guy above.

If the timing is a little retarded big injectors will certainly cause the symptoms you're seeing. My '96 did it with 300 injectors and when I bumped the timing from 12. 5 to 15. 75 degrees it ran smooth as pie :)
