I think it means you bought the right truck... :D

Yup, I love the chirp too Oo.

I, too, thought it was old belt syndrome but a new one didn't solve it. In fact, the same day I picked up the belt and some other parts at the dealer, I also picked up their tech magazine at the counter. Guess what one of the articles was... belt chirp on shut down with 5. 9L turbodiesel trucks=normal.

Depending on the climate conditions, mine does squawk, or not. Hot, cold, A/C on, A/C off it just depends on the day and what I've been doing with it.

I just read a thread on rv.net on this topic with a Dmax. Person was worried about it. Every diesel brand reported to exhibit some chirp when shut off on that thread. I had to laugh though when someone (other brand) wrote something like "yeah, our's aren't too bad... you ought to hear the squawk from some of them Dodge Cummins's when they shut down!" :-laf

I'd always replaced my serpentine belts with genuine Mopar replacements until this last time. I decided to go with a Gatorback belt purchased at Auto Zone. It squeaked worse and almost immediately after installation. Before, it would take many months before I'd hear a peep out of the Mopar belts.

Gatorback belt a better belt? NOT!

I replaced my belt last fall... ... it was quiet for a long time... it was a mopar too..... then when the humidity went up... ... . so came back the squeaking belt. It also chirps while idling..... I put a little stp "son of a gun" on it..... quiets it down for a month or so.

Usually when your truck is cold, it will chirp when you shut it down. After mine has warmed up, the chirp is gone when i shut it down. Oo.

Are you sure you didn't get that backwards?

When I was trying to troubleshoot an overheating problem and wondering if my fan-clutch was working, I discovered that when the engine is cold, the fan free-wheels and does not chirp on shutdown. When it got hot (not necessarily overheating) the fan-clutch locks up and the belt chirps on shutdown. Besides being "normal" and I like my belt-chirp (it is a DIESEL thing; gassers don't do it ;) ) I am comforted by knowing that my fan clutch IS working.
