Sterring clunk gone on my 06 -- for now!

Success finally.

New u-joint is in and the noise is gone. Apparently, the hub gave the tech all sorts of fits. Took his time to get it off without damaging it. Old joint came out with needle bearings going everywhere, dry as a bone. These guys were none too happy that greaseables weren't used by Dodge in the first place.

Three days of labor (about $2k worth) for $107.

Kry226;1829614 I then asked if they replace a lot of u-joints and he emphatically said no said:
The service writer may have been telling the truth. The failure period, on average seems to be around 70k miles - right near the end of the warranty period.

Those smart enough to realize non-greasables don't cut it will replace on their own with greaseables. The rest may use a shop that charges less than the dealer.

Makes sense Ryan, but the guy I was talking to was the parts manager, and again, I believed him. I am sure he has a good feel for type of parts they move a lot. But in any case, you're still absolutely right. I know after my 70K is up, I'll be either doing them myself or have a driveline shop do them.
