Squeaky Door Weatherstrip

Hello all, has anyone experienced squeaky door weatherstriping on their trucks? It comes from both sides of the truck towards the top of the doors. I only have about 5000 miles on mine and it is quite annoying when I dont have the radio on. I would of thought that the truck would of developed rattles/squeaks a lot later in its life. How did anyone fix it if they experienced it? Thanks

My truck just turned 5000 miles, have the exact same problem. I tried armor all, and it didn't seem to work. I think i'll try again, as maybe i missed a spot, cant hurt. Any one else tried something that seemed to solve the problem.

Quad Cabs

You guys with Quad Cabs may want to check to make sure that your quad doors are latched securely. I'll occasionally have trouble with my passenger side quad door making a squeaking noise if it does get closed all the way. It won't have any air noise, but as the body moves you hear a squeaking.

I had a lot of squeaking/scrunching sounds starting around 5,000 miles. What is really happening is the slight movement (and only very slight) of the door relative to the frame, causes the weatherstrip to rub against itself on the inside. It is hollow, try pressing on it and wiggling back and forth with your fingers, and you'll get the squeaky effect.



I had some silicone paste laying around so I massaged some of that into the weatherstrip. I did that around 20,000 miles. I haven't had a squeak for 23,000 miles since then.



I'd be very careful with Armor-All on weatherstrip, personally I'd never touch my truck anywhere with that stuff after some of the horror stories I've heard. I totally ruined the instrument cluster plastic of an older car after accidentally getting Armor All overspray on it. Turned it white & very opaque

Joel, I cleaned the weatherstrip and then used a silicon spray that I wiped into the strip. I still had the squeak occasionally on humid days. Aggie Justin got me closer with making sure the rear doors were securely closed. Finally, I adjusted the latch on the drivers door. Better. Then the dealer did a body shop movement where he popped the door in a chiropractic movement that lined up the driver door/quad cab door perfectly and the squeaking has not returned. With the window down, you can grasp the door (with it closed) and gently move it and see exactly where the squeak is coming from. Mine was almost straight up from the lock. Some are worse than others and Vaughn's suggestion of silicon paste is a good start. Plus, it really protects the strip.

I had the same on the passenger side. I ajusted the bottom latch (U bolt) to have the door close more tightly and I used Silicon spray on the seal.



No more rattles/squeaks ever since.

I found its the weather strip around the doors, not the window. The best thing I found to do is let it get dirty, and the noise goes away. Clean it and it will come back, so I figure that's one less thing to worry about cleaning.

Cboisclair, By bottom ubolt, do you mean the one that latches the drivers door?

The U bolt I refer to is the "latch" on the truck boddy (bottom end of the passenger door) when the small door is open. (this is where the small door latch to when it is closed). There is 2 large + head screw that hold it. . ­ Loosen the screws and push the assembly toward the inside of the truck. When you close the door it will feel much more tightly closed.



My small door was not closed tight enought and caused the squeak/rattles. . on the driver side is was tight and never got rattle from that side.

Thanks. I had moved my driver's door latch before but never thought the rear door had much to do with it until Aggie Justin's post a while back about it. This is good info on door adjustments. I will offer this... . if you adjust any of these latches, mark side and top/bottom locations before moving so you'll know how far you moved and where to come back to in case things don't work. Don't ask me how I know this. I just know.

Heavy Duty Silicone spray will get rid of the squeaks and help the weather striping last longer. In fact the Dodge service manual lists it as maintenance and recommends it every six months, the owners manual says nothing about it.

I have the same problem on the driver's side on my QC. Passenger side is fine.



Had it to the dealer's body shop for door adjustment but squeaking returned in a day or two.



I'll be interested in learning what works for you.

some solutions...

The quads will squeak if the back door is open the slightest amount. The back doors always get shut FIRMLY. A little WD-40 applied with a rag on the weatherstrips will help the sqeaking too.
