Hi all,
It has been awhile since I have posted anything here. Mostly just quietly reading others posts and soaking up info.
On to my problem. A month or so ago, I started getting a high pitched squeal whenever I accelerated, be it very gradually, or with a heavy foot. I thought it was the serpentine belt, especially since the blow by tube dumps all over it and I had a little over 100k miles on the original belt. So I had it changed and it didn't fix the problem. It squeals just like a fan belt, but I can't seem to find the problem. I took the intake tube off the turbo, and saw that there was a slight dirt/grime on the vanes, so I cleaned them with some carb cleaner, but the noise still persists. Can't hear it when boost isn't building (ie. cruising down the road at constant speed). It is most noticeable at low speeds when accelerating. The turbo whistle is independent from this squeal, as I can hear both sounds. But it doesn't squeal unless boost is building. Any thoughts? Could a bearing in the turbo be squealing? Could it be a loose connection along the intake tube between the turbo and the intake manifold? I haven't really noticed a drop in power, but the squeal is alarmingly loud and quite embarrasing. I would like to fix it before it craps on me if I can.
A little about my truck. I have a 4" exhaust from the turbo back. Only engine mods are a JVD Torque Enhancer installed by Van Haisley back in summer of '01. That installation also included modification of the wastegate and MAP sensor modification. I have a K&N filter, with a slightly modified stock airbox (I cut some 1" dia. holes in the bottom half to allow more air in). Truck hasn't had any problems until now as far as this squeal goes. Have almost 100k miles on it since the installation of the JVD setup. My boost gauge has showed boost numbers as high as 43psi. Turbo is stock.
Thanks for any and all input.
Craig
Thanks for any help.
