2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Squeek from driver's door, goes away when I pull door closed harder

Truck is driving me nuts. Sounds like a squeeking mouse on my left shoulder when I'm driving. Thought it was a loose screw (the truck, not me) so I went on a wild goose chase.



Finally tracked it down by pulling the door closed harder when driving over the small bumps that produce enough vibration to cause the squeeking.



Looked at my latch and catch. The catch is slightly worn.



Anyone else ever had this happen?



Would replacing the "U" shaped catch help?



Ideas?

I'm guessing the door hinge pin bushings are getting old and allowing the metal part of the door to hit the catch (U shaped bracket). Look at the door jamb where the latch is and if its distorted by the catch then that's the culprit. You could loosen the catch and tap it down a bit this might reduce or eliminate the squeak. But it may return and the door could sag more by not being supported by the catch as much. Best bet would be to get a door hinge bushing kit and go for it. Its a job for sure as you'll need to remove the door and most likely (unless you are Hercules) need a 3rd and 4th hand to muscle it off and back on.

I hate squeaky things too so I feel your pain.

Checked the door and the catch, no sign of contact. Will move the catch in by. 125" and see if it helps. Hope the catch is adjustable. Dont have torq head so will have to buy one.

Try opening the door about 45 degrees and lifting it. I too believe it is the hinge pins worn out. You should not get any up and down movement when you lift the door. I used an engine hoist to support my door when I replaced mine.

The latch is adjustable when you get the torx driver. Just a little tip... ... ... Mark the horizontal location of the latch before you move it. Also, mark the vertical. The u shaped latch will move up and down as well as sideways.



Also, the rubber seal can cause the squeaking. Make sure it is clean and that the door is fitting against the seal.

Loosened scres on catch. Moved inboard approx. 125 inch. No rattle or squeek. Door fits better against adjacent exterior body as well.
