Have any of you had your heater grids sort of, screech or squeel in the mornings after the truck has sat overnight? Mine does it every so often. Id say maybe once or twice a week. Its not all that loud but you can hear it from inside the cab. Although it doesnt seems to be affecting anything. But Im just kinda curisous if its normal, or maybe something that should be adressed to avoid future failure. Thanks in advance. :)

My 01 does that when really cold. It seems to do it now and then without any routine. I'd say its normal. It has been doing this for 6 years now without any issues.

I am hearing the same type of noise, (first start of the day / about twice a week. I thought it was the A/C compressor kicking in. It seems that each time it has happened the heater control was in defrost or the A/C button was on. How did you determine where the noise was coming from?

I doubt that is the grids squeaking(they don't move), probably the serpentine belt when the alternator increases it's output.

The noise he's talking about is a real high pitched zzzzzzz sound that gets higher as long as the heater grid is on. It does it when you turn the key on when it's cold the first time in the morning. My 99 and 05 both do it, not all the time but once in awhile. The 99 worked fine for 6years before I sold it. I would say it's normal.

Mine makes the same noise occassionally. I've never given much thought to what might actually cause it. Maybe slight amounts of ice frozen on the grids boiling away as they heat up? That would suggest it depends on relative humidity.

The squeel happens before I start the engine so it can't be a belt or alternator. Also it goes away when the grid heaters click off.

Wow, what luck. My truck did this for the first time this morning and I was wondering if it had a problem. I've never had it do it before and I have about 46K miles on the truck so, I assumed I had something else ready to go out, since I just got it back from the dealer last night. Glad to hear this seems to be fairly normal so I can put my concerns aside.

This board seems to have great timing for threads about the problems I have :D
