Srw to Drw conversion?

Hi I have a 05 2500 srw and am wondering if its worth converting to drw.
I want to put a flat bed on it, would gvw change if I did this swap
I am in California
Is it worthwhile to convert or just lease a new 5500

It's very difficult to get a modified truck certified for a gvw increase. Not impossible, but very difficult. Check on that before you spend money.

Find the recent thread about the guy converting it back so he could sell it!

A certified upfitter is required to change the GVWR, and they are not going to do that unless they are the ones working of the vehicle. Sell and get what you really want/need.

It's not hard in Oregon, you just need to license it as a truck and pay for the weight you want.

In my area of Ca, CHP doesn't bother SRW flatbeds but they will ticket DRW trucks and push for CA numbers and make you declare a weight.

You can get your truck reclassified but it's a huge hurdle to jump through. You're simply better off buying another rig if you need the rating.

You can search my old threads for my 2500 SRW to DRW swap. I recently switched it back to SRW for selling purposes.
